Taking proper care of pets is expensive when you consider the cost of feeding, grooming, vet bills and cat litter. Five cats sounds like a handful, and in most places people aren't legally allowed to have more than three pets. Why don't you just enjoy the ones you already have? If they're not enough cats for you, there's something else going on with you that owning all the cats in the world won't fix.

Haven't you ever watched Animal Precinct on Animal Planet where they sometimes have to deal with animal hoarders (usually cats)? The cats are all over the place, are semi-wild, are nasty, malnourished and generally sad looking, and the houses are a mess! The owners always object to their cats being seized from them, and they always look a little crazy and very bedraggled.

Five cats are enough for anyone. Channel your feline interests elsewhere. Take up cross-stitching and do nothing but cats. You can then have all of the cross-stitch cats you want.

And please, have all of your cats spayed or neutered. Too many cats are euthanized every day because there are not enough homes for them, and when your cats go on the prowl, they always make kittens.

No not at all, as long as you spend time with the cats and look after them have as many as you want. My mum has 8 and would have more but there is simply no room and she lives in a 6 bedroom house. I love cats and would idealy like to have 4 but i only live in small house and work full time so at the moment i only have the one. Im waiting for cat season to get another to keep my baby jasmine company. No your not mad your kind!!!!

No you are not mad. Lucky i think! If i could i would have so so many cats. The most i had once was five. My hubby nearly went mad! Now, I'm only allowed 2 (one is our son's) he also has a rabbit! He said the other day no more cats. So I'm going to get Guinea pigs instead!! You keep getting your cats, good on you!! They are loving wonderful animals and are easy to look after. Go for it, get one for me too!!!

Only if you don't have the resources and time to take care of them. If you lived in a bedsit then it wouldn't be a good idea. My friend has 4 cats and realises that this is enough for her circumstances. She is devoted to them and they are in top condition.
If you can afford to keep them in good health and in good surroundings, then go for it. There are plenty of kittens in rescue centres, that need new homes.
Hopefully your neighbours are cat friendly and don't mind so many.
Also, cats can get stressed if they are too crowded or don't like the new arrival.

No I think you are totally normal.

Cats rock and have so much personality compared to other animals!! You have to earn their respect and if you have done that with 5 cats then you are obviously the best cat parent in the world

Not mad no, just a cat lover!

Still, I would say 5 cats is quite enough for anyone - even if you're loaded with money and can take any vet bills they throw at you, people with more than 5 cats tend to have smelly houses - unless they live in mansion I spose!

Yes, your crazy! I live with 4 indoor cats & if I wasn't before, I'm crazy now! I love them all & couldn't part with any of them, but they are all spoiled in their own ways & they can be real pains in the butts! How could you want more? I feel like I'm close to not being able to give each of my cats the attention & care & love that they all deserve, if I had even 1 more, it wouldn't be fair to any of them if I couldn't properly care for them. If you can then thats fine, just be sure your not spredding yourself too thin with them. Every cat deserves to be loved & cared for & happy. Good Luck!!!

Most people would not be able to cope handling 5 or more cats, but if you can....good for you.
If you are confident that you can look after another cat and give it the attention necessary, then i say go for it.
Where have you got your cats from, because i got mine from the rspca. i got satisfaction from knowing that I had given a home to a cat in need...

Damn that sounds corny...

You can have a hundred cats and still be perfectly sane, as long as the cats are taken care of properly and your house doesn't get gross. Collecting cats is not bad, as long as you can still realize that your health and the health and happiness of the cats are top priority. Have fun with it, just don't let it get out of hand.

Of course not! Cats are fantastic animals and you should be proud of having so many! I've only got one at the moment but I'm hoping for some more!
