Is it true when people are on a diet and drasticly reduce their calorie intake to almost the point of starvation, the body starts feeding off its stored fat causing them to appear thinner?

its never a good idea to starve yourself as you risk damaging your body. besides, even if you do decide to starve yourself, you won't lose anything as the body stops burning fat in times of starvation - a survival mechanism.

stick with three meals a day and exercise often as this improves you physically and mentally.

what to eat? you want foods that wont make you hungry 20 mins later and give you brain fog..so stay away from sweets and sugary things

try out grapefruit for breakfast and maybe some porridge with raisins, for lunch try bacon salad with blue cheese

and for dinner...go nuts. have a big giant steak with another salad....desert can be something fruity like a fruit salad

dont forget to exercise...its pointless being on a diet without exercising

If one is consuming 10,000 calories a day and then decides to go on a diet, then yes, their caloric intake would be drastically reduced. No one will be at the point of starvation if they are on a 2000 calorie a day diet, they might still be hungry, and a bit onery, but not starving. Your body doesn't live off of stored fat, it only uses the fat for fuel/energy when the muscles are being used. The formula is increased activity + reduced caloric intake = weight reduction. You really need to consult a nutritionist before you start anything like that, you might make yourself sick and cause irreversible damage to your body. Don't starve yourself or try following any crash diets. Here is a good web site to begin your research....

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

You can't just take in less calories to get skinnier. It gets a lot more complicated. Your body has what is called a starvation response. If you don't eat as much or burn more calories then you take in on a daily basis, your body will respond and slow down your metabolism in order to conserve energy. And even with the smaller amount of energy it does burn, it still won't burn fat. It will instead burn your protein storages. Where is protein in your body stored? Bingo! Your muscles. Not eating as much daily will slow down your metabolism and cause your body to literally eat itself alive. You have to "trick" your body into losing weight by not letting it trigger this starvation response. You can do this using the zig-zag method. Here's what you do:
1) Find your basal metabolic rate. Just google that and you'll find the formula.
2) CALORIES COUNT. Keep track of the number of calories you take in. To zig- zag, take in about 500 calories less then your basal metabolic rate for three days. no more than three days. Then, for 1-2 days, take in 5% more than your basal metabolic rate. (about 125 calories more). Doing this will trick your body into not going into starvation mode.
3) DO NOT get your calories from junk. Junk food won't help you any.
4) Eat at least six meals a day. Make each meal a small portion. How do you do that? Well, you take your basal metabolic rate and divide it by 6. Eat that amount of calories every meal. Have a meal about every 6 hours.
5) It's always better to burn the fat not starve it. Do some cardio. Go running, jump rope, do stairs, aerobics, whatever! Just don't sit and do nothing. If you wanna watch T.V., jog in place as you do.

If you do this, you'll lose weight, and have more energy. And you'll get more toned from that cardio. You might aso want to get a copy of a book that explains all this in great detail. That book is called, Burn the fat, Feed the Muscle.

Of course, but then it also feeds off of muscle because people aren't eating enough of anything, even protein.

Then when they start eating again, they gain more weight than before, or rather they gain more fat, because they lack the muscle to metabolize it.

The less you eat the more you lose, but then when you eat again the fatter you get. Catch 22.

Exercise and healthy eating are best. Besides thin isn't in anymore, it's all about fitness, get with the times.

fat is the last to be used by the body.
every 3500 unused calorie, u put on 1 pound of weight.

the body tries to store the fat is right
reason= when a person goes in to starvation mode the body tries to protect your organs
it will also make it harder to lose the weight too

I think so... but you will gain alot of weight when you start eating again, because your body doesn't know what to do with the extra. My mom says I need to gain 10 pounds, but I know I will gain a lot more if I start to eat more. My advice: don't! You will regret it. Once you start your stuck for life.

Nope. If you starve yourself, your body takes all the calories it can from whatever you get and stores it into fat.

You get fatter.

It doesn't just feed off of fat, it feeds off of muscle too, which is NOT a good thing.
