Earth is a planet. It is composed of massive rocks that clumped together and spinning, which got caught in the Sun's gravity pull. If anything, if something is rotating around something, it's usually "falling" towards that which it is orbiting, like satellites or the moon.
That's the reason for global warming. The earth is falling 1/2 millimeter per 3 years towards the sun.

We aren't supposed to get all attached and fond of the earth. It is only a short time span before eternity.

"Why this is hell, nor am I out of it. Think'st thou that I, who saw the face of God and tasted the eternal joy of heaven, am not tormented with ten thousand hells in being deprived of everlasting bliss?"
Marlowe, Dr Faustus
"The mind is its own place, and in itself, can make heaven of Hell, and a hell of Heaven.”
Milton, 'Paradise Lost'
