Debit cards can be duplicated, but only if they have a special gadget on the machine. Usually, you hear about this at gas stations, that's why I only pay at the pump or with cash.

Anyways, chances are that your card wasn't copied. Like someone else mentioned, she probably had nothing else to do while she waited for you. I work retail and find myself staring at the floor most of the time while people enter their pin numbers because I have absolutely nothing to do while I wait. Not everyone is considerate enough to look away.

If you feel uncomfortable, go to a bank machine and change your pin. It's really easy.

Actually she could. It's far fetched but it happens. There are little gadgets they can attach to the swiper to capture the info off the magnetic strip. Then with your pin number, she could go to town or sell the info to someone else who will. Just watch your account, they usually go in pretty quick. If you have online banking, you can check several times a day. You can change your pin as often as you want.

I was in the drive through at McDonalds and the kid told me their machine was broken and I would have to verbally give him the pin number. I thanked him and cancelled the order.

I did have a debit card number stolen a few weeks ago but not the pin, and they were able to do some stuff with it. They got commissions by ordering small items on my debit card. The stuff was mailed to me and I sent it all back and my bank got all the money back except 5 bucks. I think it was another fast food place where it was stolen. Just don't keep much money in any account that uses a debit card. Use online banking so you can transfer money into your account when you want to go shopping.

It gets a bit complicated depending on store receipt system and other things, so you might want to change your pin. If someone has your number and some hardware, they can program a card to fake it. Most likely she was staring because she had 3 more people in line and had nothing else to do while you "blundered" your way through putting in your PIN.

She shouldn't be able to do anything without having your card, but all you really need to do is change your pin number. Then you no longer have to worry about it. Also, check your bank statement to make sure you weren't charged twice.

Whether she can or not, if you feel uncomfortable about it you can easily change your pin number. I would change just for peace of mind. Talk with your bank.
