Saucer: i politely object your philosophy, i think in those cases, the gays and coulter for example, they wernt mad that she called someone a fag per se, i think they where mad at her for being a bigoted grade-A ***** for thinking she can just use those words freely like that. they were, hell me too, mad at the truth that ann coulter is such a pompous wad.

yes. when people get angry at something someone says, that just means there is truth to what that person said.

No. Here's an example:

Ann Coulter recently called John Edwards a "f*****." (Using a derogatory word used for gay men ... Google it and you can see the word that Yahoo here is bleeping out.) Her defense was that it is clear that John Edwards is not gay, and therefore it was not intended to be hurtful to gays. But she missed the point. That would be like using the n-word (implying that he was a slave to the left), and saying that since Edwards is not black, it was not insulting to black people.

In other words, truth has nothing to do with the intended (or the recieved) hurt.

Ann Coulter is not only a raging idiot ... she's also just plain mean.

To the mature, it never hurts when it is true. It only hurts if it is lie.

Truth might be tough many times, but gives a clear picture and makes it easier for us to plan and go on having taken our lesson and not repeat the same mistakes.. A lie, can only momentarily give -if any- satisfaction but shortly, it confuses, entraps and leads us to the wrong direction perplexing things.

no i don't. i've been hurt myself far too many times by words that weren't even remotely true.

it hurts because it's unfair. because it's not true. because you can't see how someone who should know you better than that could say such things about you, or because you can't understand why a stranger would come to such conclusions about you with so little to go on. it hurts for many reasons, and depending on circumstances it can hurt enough to scar you for life. especially if it's not true.

No. There have been plenty of untruths told over time that have hurt. If someone told a supermodel that she was fat and ugly, it would hurt her, even though everyone would know that it's ridiculous and not true. "It only hurts if it's true" is the type of thing that people who are doing the insulting say to the people they are hurting.

It always hurts when people say bad things about us whether true or not. The old saying about sticks and stones is false because words can and do hurt us.

No.

Would it hurt is someone you knew started spreading rumors about you that weren't true? Yes. Of course.

No.

It hurts my feelings when people say horrible things to me or about my loved ones, even if I know for a fact that they're full of baloney.
