Our cat just threw up part of a leaf to a peace lilly that we have as a house plant. I've read that they are poisonous to cats, but since he threw it up is he okay? The vets are closed today or else I'd call them!

Consider the fact that what he threw up, may not have been all of the plant he digested.

Just keep an eye on him for unusual behavior.

I would not necessarily consider him ok, especially if he did not vomit up every piece of the plant that he ate.

The peace lily is a type of houseplant that contains oxalates. Oxalates cause toxicity in animals, including cats, by causing the formation of calcium oxalate crystals in the animal's vital organs. Signs of toxicity may include excessive salivation, head shaking, pawing at the mouth, difficult breathing, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Call the vet when they open tomorrow. They'll tell you if you should bring him in or not. In the meantime, keep a close eye on him.

Haven't you posted this question twice? I've already answered the other one, but will reiterate:

Even a small piece of lily can cause kidney failure in cats. The signs are vomiting, diarrhoea and depression. Please watch your cat carefully and call an emergency vet if he displays any of these signs. (inc continued vomiting).

Your vet may wish to conduct a blood test to check your cat's renal function.

It's not going to kill him if that's what you are worried about. At the worst you are going to have some vomit, and diarrhea to clean up.

Been there Done that. Your cat would have had to eat nearly the whole plant for it to be anywhere near deadly.

Good Luck.
