I would at least take the dog to the shelter and have it scanned for a microchip. You may get lucky and find the owner. Otherwise, maybe a compromise. You keep the dog until you can find a good home for it and advertise locally and also on petfinder.com. Hopefully, you'll find a good home for it.

Well if you can't keep another dog, and you are the parent, you must just tell her this is the way it is, life is hard and she will have to learn, spca has a better chance of finding him a home than leaving him in a kennel at old souls and if you could check on him at the spca to see if he is adopted maybe that will help her feel better. What else can you do. I know we can't save all the dogs in the world I wish we could, but sometimes it is better to have them in a place (put to sleep) rather than starving or hit by a car and suffering.

Tell her that we cant keep it and that you arent going to keep it, and tell her she has a week to give it to someone or it goes to the SPCA. Anyway, the SPCA will always keep a puppy, the never put it down. And it will go to a good home, because they are good people that make sure that the people that adopt it will take very good care of it. And ask her if she thinks the puppy is cute. If she says yes, then say " then why wouldnt other people like it and take it home to be in their family?"

If you own a farm, what harm is it to have one more dog? Im a softie so i would let my daughter keep it. We are known for taking in strays. But if you absolutely cant keep it... Wait until she is on school and take the animal to a shelter and tell her that the owner of the dog claimed it. I know its a lie but it will save you having to argue with her and she wont feel so bad.

I would take the animal to the shelter, but take your daughter with you. Promise to visit the dog at least once a week with her. After a while maybe she will forget. Maybe you can post up fliers advertising that the dog is at the shelter and needs a good home.

I thnik you need to introduce her to the concept of cost of animals, otherwise she is going to do this again. I had three tiny kittens show up in our back yard after our previous cat disappeared. When I began to add up office visits and spaying cost, I began shopping for cheaper choices and placing at least one (later two) of the cats.
Instead of giving her an allowance and taking out the costs of the pet, sit her down and add up the costs and each time there is an expense, reduce the balance. And when she wants to buy something at the store for herself, it either has to come out of the allowance or not be bought because of the expense of the pet.
As for the current situation, take her to the people who run SOS and let them show her what they do. And perhaps both of you get active in spay neuter and low cost vaccination programs.

Tough spot you're in. If you have no friends or family that can adopt the dog why not advertise in the local paper for a home. That way your daughter can be involved in placing him in his new home. That should ease her concerns.
