Lord these answers. Yes it is safe to breed your Shih Tzu , Make sure you do get a clear bill of health from your vet. Same goes for the male you want to breed her with. I don't understand some times on people way of thinking, but I guess they all have their way of thinking. This is the only time you should breed her though. I stop breeding mine at seven. Good luck to you and you are going to enjoy your puppies and what a good mother she is with her pups.

It's never really safe to breed a small breed of dog, especially an older one like yours. Why breed more puppies when thousands are put to sleep everyday in the U.S.? Please have her spayed. Unspayed female dogs often develop a deadly uterine disease called Pyometra. Most die from it and it can be prevented by spaying. A female dog spayed before her first cycle will have almost a 100% chance of not developing breast cancer too. So, there's many good reasons to spay and none I can see not to.

Your dog is much too old to breed. Atrophy of the uterus begins at four years of age. Age 2 is optimum for breeding. She is three times as old as that. It is particularly dangerous given that she is a toy breed.
It is irresponsible to breed any dog that has not finished it's championship in the conformation show ring. The show ring is the proving ground for breeding quality. If your dog is not of a quality to finish her championship, then she is not of a quality to be bred.

I wouldn't, that's pretty old for breeding. Also the fact that you needed to ask this suggest there are many other things you don't know about breeding.
Please do get your dog spayed - one poster mentioned about mammary tumours and pyometra, this is absolutely true - you're risking your dog's health by not getting her spayed
Yes, puppies are very cute, but there are plenty out there already without adding to them!!

you should have her spayed. She is at the edge of too old to breed. She could have complications if this is her first time and she can develop pyrometria (the uterus filling with pus) Please have her spayed. There are so many puppies in the world and thousands , no millions are killed each year because no one wants them. Think of all those dead dogs before you bring more into the world for profit. Please!

She's six YEARS old? That's kinda old to start breeding a dog, actually. Has she been shown? Is she a champion at anything other than being a pet??
