I've been searching online for puppies in my area to adopt and I got two e-mail messages saying they had puppies that were going to be shipped from Cameroon....Where is Cameroon first of all...and second, I want to make sure this isn't a scam...has anyone heard of this before?

thanks!
Sarah

This sounds very bad, and should be reported!

Puppies should NOT be imported - no need for it, as any responsible breeder will know. Ten to one they are from puppy mills, and two to one they are being transported under bad conditions.

Pet shops are also a bad place to get dogs from. Responsible breeders are OK, but the best place is of course a rescue home!

first off .. DO NOT go to a petshop. Those dogs are ALL from puppy mills and are bred all wrong.

I dont know where Cameroon is at all. Usually if you find a puppy online I wouldnt trust it. I would contact your local humane society/pound and ask them to keep you updated if they get any puppies in.

Or if you know what type of breed you want, you can also just Google some breeders. If you wanted say, a dachshund .. type in "dachshund breeders in your state" .. its usually common sense if they are bad breeders. You can e-mail them and tell them you are looking for a pup and stuff. Just listen to your gut! Most reputable breeders also will NOT ship pups as it is stressful. So that can be a bad sign too.

Hope that helped!

Here are some scam sites.

http://www.terrificpets.com/scams/

http://www.foxstonemaltese.com/buyers_beware.htm

http://www.phonebusters.com/english/recognizeit_puppy.html

http://www.puplistings.com/pages.php?page=8

I am contacted ALL the time by people pretending to be looking for a dog. Bad use of the english language, horrible spelling. They want a puppy, and they want to send me a cheque for much more than what the puppy is worth. Then they want me to send the difference either back to them, or to their shipper.
People are scamming people thru selling puppies, and scamming people when trying to buy a puppy.
In no case is it ever good for the dog or the people!

What is the website link of the breeder you are looking at?

cameroon is the funnel-shaped country in western africa, here's a link to a picture of a map showing cameroon.

also, think of what the puppies would have to go through in order to get to you... hmm sorta like slaves, if you ask me. i know from personal experience that dogs hate travelling. my friends dog, a golden retriever actually turned his tail [:)] on his master after a flight from Europe to the US.

and puppies... in my opinion their physchological state would be ruined... such stress at such a young age... reminds me of quarantine [my friends parrot's feathers fell out after a month of quarantine - so much stress!]

and are the puppies pure breed? also, are they asking you to pay in advance?
if so, they'll probably just take your money and close/transfer money from that bank account to their own personal one, and you'll never hear from them again.
and your puppies will be nowhere to be seen [even with or without a ruined psychological state].

i wouldnt recommend pet shops either. imagine being kept inside of a cage for most of your childhood. that doesn't seem very attractive to me.

i suggest you keep a look out for a breeder in your area, one whom you can pay a visit too, and see the puppies for yourself. A good idea is to find an 'animal market' in your area, where the breeders go and take their animals with them to sell. The buyers come and look at the animals and decide whether or not they want them. i like this, because you can aviod having to set up special appointments with the breeders and it can save you the hastle of going to and from the breeder's houses. also, you can look at loads of puppies, not just from one breeder, but a whole bunch, so your choice is varied!

hope i helped! :)
and please dont believe those terrible 'Cameroon-puppy' sellers...

It's scam and it's a very common one at that! RUN! ONLY deal with someone local.. or a rescue. That's the best advice.

try checking your local area animal shelter as they could possibly have adoption for pets along with craigslist.com and if u ever need further information on pet scams http://scamsbeware.com is a good resource center to help you stay informed, best wishes.
