Swimming is often touted as the best form of exercise for weight loss. And when you think about it, it seems to make sense.
After all, swimming uses almost all of your major muscle groups. It places a vigorous demand on your heart and lungs. Swimming is also popular with people who are extremely overweight, pregnant, or suffering from some kind of injury.
When you swim breastroke or backstroke, you're burning about the same number of calories as a fast walk or a slow jog. However, for some reason, swimming appears to be less effective than other forms of exercise at promoting weight loss.
Swimming weight loss
Research published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine shows that in the absence of a controlled diet, swimming has little or no effect on weight loss [1].
Professor Grant Gwinup compared three exercise programs for three months. Each program began with up to 10 minutes of daily exercise. The length of each workout was increased by five minutes every week.
• Test subjects following the walking program lost 17 pounds of weight during the three-month study.
• Those following the cycling program lost 19 pounds of weight.
• However, subjects following the swimming program actually gained 5 pounds.

Yeah, but it's mostly cardio..which means you'll lose weight...you did not specify whether fat or muscle.
Now of course when you lose weight you lose muscle mass, but if you weight lift along with swimming, you will help retain muscle mass, and also dont for get to take protein, preferraby whey after workouts, or casein protein 45 min before working out.
Swim for at least 30-45 minutes, and because swimming is fun try 60 min with a 500 calorie defeceit on what you usually eat.

YES!! And it's better than a treadmill because it's low impact.
My mother broke her leg skiing AND quit smoking at the same time... she gained 40 pounds !!
After she got the cast off, she started swimming at the recommendation of the doctor... at first she could BARELY swim 50 yards without gasping. But she kept at it... daily.
A year later, she had shed 50 pounds and swam a mile each afternoon... in fact at 49 yrs old, she could outpace Junior High swimmers.
Oh... and I'm an Ex-US Navy Rescue swimmer, and I swim each day (1/2 mile)... it's kept me from GAINING weight. I weigh the same at 42 as I did at 22.
Miss ya Mom

swimming is very good for you to loose weight as your body weight is supported in the water so it puts less pressure on your joints which in most people who are over weight get problems from.it exercises a lot of different muscles.if you go to your local swimming pool you should find different groups meeting up to exercise, like over 50s,bums and tums, and lots more.a treadmill is ok as part of an exercise routine but you need other machines for other muscles hence why people join a gym as its expensive to get all these machines.hope this has been a help

Reduce your own stress. Your stress hormone cortisol could be activated by extremely low-calorie diets, intense training, lack of rest and day-to-day worries, which results in a spike in glucose levels as part of your blood. More worryingly, it can give rise to blocked arteries and fat build up around your internal organs, putting you at risk of diabetes and heart disease. The sole prescription for this is to… chill out.

Utilize 20 minute rule. Eat your portion-controlled meal then, even if you are hungry afterwards, wait for 20 minutes and see if you still do. Nine times from 10, you won’t. If you are doing, eat 10 per cent much more.
