Ecclesiastes explains that everything, except 10 commandments, is but vanity.
Perhaps the passage you quote teaches and reminds the reader that prophecy has elements of human vanity also. Hosea is not God. The commandment--Thou shall not murder--should take precedence. A food for thought.

I wonder why they call Samaria a she? It was the men who did the smiting and dashing of childrens heads against the rocks (besides the raping and pillaging), the men left a desolate waste behind them. In the ot, was it large groups of woman going around, dashing the childrens heads against the rocks? (NO.) Seeing that women were not even aknowledged in the ot., Men, who dwelt in the land of the living, were recorded, and all his doings, for a record.
I don't get where people think the old testament is so holy? It is mostly a book about history, and how the Law came about.
It is recorded history of people who broke the law, for posterity. All the actions the men did were criminal. There was no such thing as Justice. Men ran rampant, and did what they wanted to. And people today worship a criminal record, as if it were "holy", and every crime they comitted, was beyond the law? Ya - I guess - then they have the right? to follow suit? To get back to my question, I know its off the subject but, why do they call Samaria, She? Or any religious institution, She? It is an all male vision, they spawned i - oops! I mean - gave birth to it, pardon my angliz. I know that is a bit off the topic, but, any thoughts? Blasphemy perhaps?

Where does it say God did this to the Samaria's? You must read these words again but this time pray that the Holy Spirit put understanding into the words you read. You are a person of great kindness which is equalled by your anger of wasted life. If you do this, you will find yourself asking, "How could God allow this?" Well, the answer I found was how can someone save someone that doesn't want to be saved? As for the children that have been harmed by mankind, "The Innocent shall not perish." I was once where you are and when you have children it's even worse. Thinking about it all just left me feeling hallow. How could this be the loving God Christian's rave about? Now I sit and can only phantom how much pain God must feel when just one innocent life is taken.

Did you read the entire chapter?
Did you know that Israel had tossed God off the throne in the time of Samuel?
Did you know that Samuel was enraged, but God told Samuel to warn them what a human king would be like. They had, said God, rejected Him from being their King.
(maybe that's why they didn't know their King when He came to them)
What is happening here is a result of that choice.
Rules is rules, ya break 'em, ya pay the consequences, that's just the way it is.

It's one verse amongst many, but you don't even have to stray away from the ten commandments.
" I, the Lord thy God, am a jealous God, visiting
the iniquity of the fathers upon the chil-
dren unto the third and fourth generation
of them that hate me."
So, you could be punished for the behaviour of your great-grandfather, according to this...
(And to pre-empt a few folk above, I do know the bible, its history and its context very well.)

God was not orderering this to happen, but predicting what would happen when people rebel against Him.....
By open sin and rebellion, people rejected God's protection against their enemies.....many times children suffer for the sins of their parents....
the Assyrians (not jews or God) came in and slaughtered the Israelites..the assyrians are still brutal to this day ( Iraq, Iran)

People often misinterpret the Old Testament--so you are not alone in your misunderstanding. In Hosea 13:16, God is NOT demanding the slaughter of women and their children. Hosea is warning that these terrible things will happen to people who rebel against God.
If you are going to study the Old Testament, please do so with someone who knows about the Bible. Clearly, it is dangerous for you to do so alone. ;^)
You are in my prayers.

Buddy, that's just one example. Oh there are many more, many more similar atrocities committed by the God of Abraham. My favorite is God sending the she-bears to eat the kids that called one of his priests "Baldy."

ARE YOU IGNORANT? [I.E. Uninformed]
Who were those Scriptures written TO AND WHY?
A VERSE TAKEN "OUT OF CONTEXT" IS A PRETEXT FOR "ERROR!"
Have you read the Entire Old Testament? I think not! For if you would have you wouldn't be asking such Silly Questions!
GOD GAVE ISRAEL all the Land from the Tigris & Euphrates Rivers to the Nile in Egypt!
THEY were told to DESTROY the HEATHEN that were in that LAND!
Did you Miss That = ALSO? ? ?
Thanks, RR
