Do NOT put vinegar in your dog's ear please.
Always take your dog to the vet if it has any health problem. Home remedies are pointless and often cause more harm. If the infection is 'really bad' you definitely need the vet - for some antibiotics!
And don't bother with pet shops remedies either, they are not licensed to sell proper medicines. You'll just be wasting more money in the long run and more time, as all the time your dog is in discomfort.

It is important to take your dog to the vet because prolonged ear infection can cause severe damage to the ear!
Your vet will most likely swab the ear. Be sure your vet gives your dogs ears a deep clean (where they wash the ears) to get a lot of the gunk out. The vet will then give you the appropriate antibiotics and ear cream your dog needs to get better.
While you are treating your dog I would advise cleaning your dogs ears out with a good ear cleaner (suggested below) daily to get that infection out. Then I would clean the ears every week or every other week - and every time after a bath or it is possible water has gotten into the ear as preventative maintenance.
I am including a link to a WONDERFUL ear cleaning product.

For sensitive ears:

This is not an alternative to taking your dog to the vet, Be sure you take it to the vet and use this product after he has been treated.
Good-luck!

Our previous German Shepherd had a lot of trouble with ear infections. We found the best thing to do was get ear drops from the vet. Everything else seemed to either do nothing or make it worse.
Good luck.

Vinegar is only good as a cleaning solution but it won't get rid of infections, your vet will likely take a swab to check to see if the problem is ear mites or infection and then treat accordingly

Good answer from Chalice. I despair when I read of the uninitiated people who use all sorts of so-called ' remedies ' for their dogs. IT IS DANGEROUS AND CAN CAUSE UNTOLD DAMAGE. There is a saying that 'you should never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear'... the same applies to your dogs too!
