We are staying at the Travelodge in Richmond BC and getting the ferry to Victoria the next day. Option 1-Take the shuttle back to the airport, then the Pacific Coach Lines to the ferry. Total cost is $75.75 for 2 adults and kid, but the travel time is so long this way. Second option, take a taxi from the hotel to the ferry but someone said it would be over $100 cab fare! Is this true?

No, it isn't completely right, but it depends on a couple other things on what you are doing.

I estimate that would be a $40plus cab ride. You are about half way between there and downtown and a cab ride from the hotel to downtown would be $25. BUT! the PCL fair sounds like it includes the Ferry fee. If it is the normal rate, it usually does. If so you have $30-35 Ferry fees to add to your cab ride. That might be what was referred to in the $100 fare. Or if it included a cab ride on the Victoria side, the total would be more than $100.

Do you have plans on the other side? The Victoria Swartz Bay Terminal is just as far away from anything as the Vancouver side. If you are being picked up it is fine. But if not then the best plan is the PCL from Airport to Downtown Victoria.

I agree with the other answerer that taking the PCL is probably the best option. You won't be far from the airport in richmond, so it makes sense to go there for the bus. However you can also get the bus at the Richmond Comfort Inn. It's $41.75 each to go from the airport to Victoria (this includes the price of the ferry). I seem to remember there being a student rate too.

As the ferry terminal is about 30 minutes outside of Victoria, I recommend getting the whole package. You can also buy a PCL ticket on the ferry that will take you from the terminal to downtown (Vancouver or Victoria) if wish.

depends on what you wanna spend. it is a good distance to go. i would go with the shuttle because of the traffic on the highway to the ferry. it is unpredictable and slow, and your taxi fare would be quite pricey. i have always taken the bus or driven. if you don't have alot of luggage take the bus. it'll be under $20 for the family.
