fleece has become a rather generic term for fibers intended as insulation.

originally this was the insulation fibers of sheep and similar animals, as differentiated from the wool, which is still a good insulator, but has longer, stronger fibers.

nature provides another optimal insulation material, down, here separated from feathers, which have structural components.

cotton, is still used only to describe the cellulose fiber fruit of the cotton plant. as we look for sunlight-to-fuel conversion, we need to ask the cotton breeders for heavy oil production.

Informal studies suggest cotton farms may become carbon neutral at very low cost.

Plastics may soon be made from plant products. Making plastics from petrolium sequesters carbon if in a landfill or recaptures it when recycled.

Synthetic fleece, and other synthetic fibers are generally formed rather like cake decorations, the various nozzle patterns spinning strands with desired properties.

Baaa, fleece is wool-- as in sheep...unless you are talking about polar fleece which is synthetic in the same family as polyester...recycled milk jugs and what not.

Cotton is a plant (cellulose) that is harvested in the fall and runs through a gin to remove the hulls and seeds, then it is spun into thread to make textiles.
