Depends on your plans and where you live. In California and the southwest, Spanish is very valuable. French is helpful of course if you plan to be in Europe a lot and also with careers in the foreign service. It is a beautiful international and universal language. Spanish is easier however.

This isn't really a factual question, but rather one of opinion. It depends on your tastes. Personally, I would choose French. When spoken, I think it sounds nicer. Also, it is a harder language to learn, and I like a challenge. However, Spanish is often said to be more fun to learn, and it is expected that you learn more faster because it is an "easier" language, though that is certainly debatable.

The bottom line is that you need to pick one that you like better. Consider the cultures. Would you rather visit France/Quebec or Mexico/Spain? Which will be more useful to you in the long run? Which will you enjoy studying more? This isn't a question that yahoo answers will answer for you, but something that you need to choose and decide for yourself. Good luck! Learning a language is an excellent, useful achievement.

Spanish. The language is spoken by more people than French. Use of Spanish is on the rise in the world, use of French is on the decline.

Both languages are similarly easy/difficult to learn. I have studied both. They are both based on Latin.

German, on the other hand, now that is a tough language to learn.

Spanish.
1) it's easier to learn
2) it's easier to practice (more availability)
3) it's useful
4) your not as likely to lose it
5) it's becoming more popular / widespread
6) music/food/culture

All in all Spanish is the better investment.

It depends on your situation really. I speak English, German, and French. I also plan on learning a few more languages because I plan on being an interpreter and I just love languages.

I don't think one is 'better' than the other, it just depends on preference, necessity or convenience.

Personally, I prefer the sound of the Spanish language ;)
