Heat the oven to 375 degrees. Some perfer 425 degrees. Depending on the type of potato you use, Idaho or Russet and the weight cooking time will vary from 45 min to 1 hour.
Scrub the potato, some like to rub the skin with olive oil and speinkle with salt. Perice the potato with a folk or slice into the skin to a depeth of about 1/2 inch with a knife to alow steam to escape.

Preheat the oven on 380°
Pierced potato with a fork all over
Put in oven and check with a knife to know when they're done (the cooking time depends on the type of potatoes you use).
You can also wrap the potatoes first in aluminum foil, but I found the skin too soft when cooked that way, when the first method gives a crispier skin.
Bon appétit,

wash the potato and then use a fork to poke it about 4 times... this allows steam to release from the potato so it doesnt explode. In a preheated oven (350-375) bake it for an hour

I've had good luck with the following: Stick the potatoes with a fork and wrap in aluminum foil. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Place your potatoes in for 1 hour. Take out of the oven with a mitt and check for firmness. If you can squeeze them some, you can let them sit for a while. They will stay warm in the foil for somewhile.

Take a good size russet potato and wash it by
running water on it.Poke holes in the potato with a
fork then wrap it in foil.Preheat oven to 350 to 400
degrees and leave in oven for about 1 to2 hours.
Better before you wrap the potato in foil cut
in half and put butter on it then wrap in foil.

Scrub it well. Poke some holes around it with a fork. Set it in a 425 oven and roast for 40 to 50 minutes.
If you want, you can rub some vegetable oil all over the skin and sprinkle with salt. Put it on a baking tray. That will give you a nice crispy skin.

to make it faster, microwave the potato for half the alotted time. most newer microwaves have a baked potato setting. then pop in a preheated oven at 400 degrees and it only takes about 20 mins. to finish.

Poke some holes in the skin with a fork, set your temp to 350°, if you'd like crispy skin coat the potato with shortening, and bake for about 45 minutes.
