OK, I live in florida where it gets very hot. And he leaves his dog, who is a sweet tri colored lab/pitt mix out side in his dirty, and very smelly yard with out food and water. He has a dog house but the dog dosent know how to use it, and the only reason he has it is because animal control told him to buy one, and the dogs eye is very red and swollen, and is weeping, its been like that for months. nd he just recently got this cute little puppy out of the paper for free. And she is infested with fleas, and her tounge is very white, and I think I read somewhere thats because of the fleas? I have tried to help both. The lab mix I fed him secretly till at least till he was fat, and got the man to get a 75 foot runner from tree to tree for him. But I dont know what to do with the eye. I buy big dog biscuitts for my Dobie, and cure/pitt mix and I give the big doggie a couple a day and pet him. But He is extremly lonley. The puppy, I have given her a flea bath, but she has them again.

And calling Animal Control is not an option. I do not want them to go to have the chance of being euthanized!!!
He even has about 5 cats, and only a couple are spayed, but the dogs are intact.
He dosent even take care of his children, he has a very nasty, house. he has never cut his grass, there garbage litterally all over his yard, and there is garbage and *crap* litterally, human and animal all over his house. His kids do not have a mother, and dont even sleep on mattreses. Matter of fact, they dont have any. AND DONT WORRY, THEY HAVE BEEN REPORTED LIKE A THOUSAND YEARS AGO, AND THEY CHECK IN ON HIM REGULARLY AND ARE TAKEN CARE OF ALOT BETTER.
No, he does not get watered, and does not eat regularly. and he eats and drinks out of plastic salad bowls.
Oh, and just to warn all of you, im probably going to repost this a couple more times =] Its for the dogs though..

I like that you're trying to help the animals, but I'm concerned with your methods. I'm also concerned that you're unwilling to call Animal Control at the risk of the dogs being put down. If I were you, I'd let Animal Control know (when you call) that you'd be willing to help find the dogs a new home should they be removed from their current home. This way you can make sure that they'll be taken care of. Even though their owner doesn't sound very responsible, OVER feeding a dog can be just as harmful, if not not more, to the dogs' health. Dogs shouldn't have a steady supply of food (although they should have a steady supply of clean water). They should be kept on a diet based on their age, body type, and weight. Your feeding them in addition to him feeding them could prove to do more harm than good in the long run. You should be able to feel a dog's ribs (otherwise it might be overweight). Have you talked to the owner about the medical problems you've seen? Maybe you could pop as a friendly neighbor and tell him what you've noticed. If he is unwilling to do something then, call Animal Control. It seems pointless to keep dogs and not care for them, especially when you barely care for your own children. Perhaps you could offer to take them (if you'd be willing to) if he doesn't want them. Best wishes!

Animal control should be contacted again. Find out who is in charge of the animal control officers. Where I live it is the sheriff's department. After you find out who is above the animal control contact them. Take photographs of the animal in the yard and present it as evidence. Are you willing to testify? This sounds like a very bad case of animal abuse and neglect. I am not sure of the laws in Florida, but where I live the owners can be charged with criminal charges and be forced to care for the animal or sign it over to the Humane Society. I know that you think that providing these things is a good thing and I am going to tell you it is very noble of you but you need to document everything , what you fed the dog, when you fed the dog, when you gave the puppy a bath, what you used. I am telling you this because if something happened to one of these animals, your neighbor could try to sue you because you were there. you need to protect you too. It is best to let the proper authorities see what is going on and let them do their jobs. Good luck

Unfortunately the world is filled with neglectfull and irresponsible pet owners. There is not much you can do about it except the nice things you are doing for them now. The problem with trying to 'spirit' them away or obtaining them for yourself some how is, more than likely, he will just get another one (or more). If they are sickly, Animal Control will put them down, but maybe that is more humane than dying a slow death. If they are healthy (except for fleas), they may have a chance to go to a good home. You've got to be careful not to piss him off about the animals. He may tell you to stay out of his yard and mind your own business, and that won't help the dogs any. He could also get mad and charge you with trespassing or even try to harm your dog. It's heartbreaking, but you can't save the world....I know, I've tried!

Hon, you have to call animal control. They will ticket him. I had the same problem with my landlord, up here in New Jersey where the winters are cold. He had the dog sleeping on concrete or under his deck, in the snow, dogs ribs were out... I called the cops and they sent someone out. He had to pay 250 bucks and the next day he went out and got a doghouse. If they already told him to buy a doghouse and he complied then they will order him to get vet care for the dog and he'll prob do that too. Can you take any of them? What about no-kill shelters? You can also shame him into it. Take pictures, get his phone number or address, and post flyers in a public place in your town. Contact anyone who cares. Shame is great-these brutes don't think animals have rights but they will be less able to deny their cruelty if their phone is ringing non stop and people are coming to the house to protest. You are doing a great thing, be tough and don't give in!

You need to call the police or the Health dept. actually. One being infested with fleas wwill become a huge infestation and where do you think they'll seek next? Your house/dog/etc. Sounds like so much neglect that the guy wouldn't even know if the dog died and in the heat how pleasant and healthy is that? Seriously this is a health issue in relationship with a humane issue. You say you don't want the dog euthanized but is it really living a great life???? Put in the call immediately before it gets worse.

Contact your local health department , not animal contol. The waste in the yard and the fleas make it a healy issue .
The inspector will probably call animal control who will take the animals to a rescue shelter .
The entire area needs to sprayed for fleas , and all animals traeated at the same time , or the fleas just move around .

Back in the 70's I walked to the beach and saw close, very close, to shore two Manta Rays, each with a wing span of 20 feet.
There was a boat encircling one of he Manta Rays with a net and every fiber in my body screamed: Do something about this!
Cause it was clear the two Rays were mates.
After the one was captured, the other stayed as if in mourning and grief stricken.
By the way, it made the papers and local news and the Ray died several later while in captivity, and I regret having not done something to stop it.
So, whatever it takes provided what you state is true you should, without breaking the law, do to alleviate the dog's suffering.
Interestingly there is a Florida case about the dogs taken from Louisiana by a local prosecutor, that may provide a legal stratagem.

That is so sad I love dogs. Ok well I would probably 1st talk to the guy about it and if he does not do anything about it or doesn't listen go to the animal control b/c I don't think that they can put a animal to sleep w/out the consent of the owner, and if the owner would let the animal control put them to sleep he obviously does not want them and you could probably buy the dogs from him and anyways I think the the animal control doesn't put them to sleep unless it is a last resort

If you don't call, the dogs stay in the mess. If you do, the humane society comes. You can do what I did when my neighbor was not feeding his horse. I waited until it was dark, (after 10:00pm) and fed the horse from my hay barn. The hay was gone by morning. I climbed their fence, and dewormed it every 6 week, again, while they slept. But there was nothing I could do when they never called a farrier to trim the feet. Unless you do it yourself, you will have to call the Humane society.
If you wish to continue to care for this dog, you will be buying Frontline for fleas (A once-a-month treatment) dewormers, and the rest of it.... good luck, hon.

Call a shelter-florida animal cops-there is a helpline. Or, try to buy the dogs off the guy or contact a no-kill rescue group.
Talk to people about it!
Good luck,
charlotte
