He has been, and may still be, using methamphetamines intravenously.
I can't change him, but, I have tried to, and now I just want to know what I can expect to happen to his life in the future.

I am sorry about your son 1st of all! and that you have to deal with it! I know 1st hand the trauma of being in an addictive persons life!
Hep. C affects the liver unfortunately can lead to liver damage which can in turn need a transplant. However they can be treated w/ meds, such as Interferon & Ribavirin, but I do not know if your son is willing to take them. Drinking alcohol can make liver disease worse obviously.
They also say that Hep C (rarely) is linked to porphyria cutanea tarda(a condition that may cause a blistering rash) and to cryoglobulinemia (can cause a purplish rash) on your lower extremities and may lead to kidney damage.

I don't know if this helped you but I hope that it makes you a little more aware of what can happen! For further info go to the ~ http:www.mayoclinic.com/health/hepatitis

I pray that your son will at least try some meds for the sake of his family if not for himself!

I am so sorry to hear that. What a shame. And how difficult it must be for you. Hepatitis C will gradually lead to cirrhosis of the liver. He will begin to get jaundice and become very, very sick. Hep C is a killer. It's just a matter of time for these patients. Sometimes it's years, sometimes months depending on the severity. There is no way to reverse what is already damaged. You can only keep what you have and it seems that he is not interested in that. I hope that my honesty, cruel at first, will help you understand that time is limited so do what your heart tells you to do in regard to him.
Again, I am very sorry to hear of your predicament.

Your son is playing with his own life and unless weaned off drugs and alcohol RIGHT NOW, he could slip into a coma and other medical conditions I would rather not discuss on the Internet. PLEASE RUSH him to the nearest detox centre BY FORCE.

To put it mildly....liver dysfunction can cause blood toxicity, leading to coma and sometimes, liver rupture. None of these are pleasant.

He is on a downward slide to a slow death. His liver will probably fail. Yes, he can save his a$$, but only if he quits what he is doing. That's totally up to him, not you. Don't go on any guilt trips, as he made choices, albeit bad ones, in his life.

I'm sorry to hear that. If he would quit the drugs and get treatment, he could put the hepatitis into remission.

Go here for the facts on hepatitis c and long-term problems from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC):
