Why do people use this statement? I just had someone say it, but it wasn't very clear. I just don't understand the statement, any insight?

The Bible state in Deuteronomy 6:13 ....You must fear the Lord your God and serve Him ....... Psalms 111:10 ...The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.....Philippians 2:12...obeying God with deep reverence an fear....
God is a God of love but you should always remember He is God. Remember the prophets have said ...How terrible is it to fall in the hands of a living God... Fear is a sin and that is why you may not fear anything or anyone but God. Not fear in the sense you might know fear but rather with great respect and reverance. God Bless

Absolutely. God is as much a God of wrath as He is of love, of Justice as He is of Mercy. God is the divine Judge of the world, and just how comfortable would you be going into an earthly court, being fully guilty of the charges against you, and having to face the judge? How much more so should you feel afraid of facing a divine Judge? We're guilty. Tried, convicted, and sentenced. There's a way out, but we know that our sentence must be met. Fortunately, God is also a God of grace and provided a way for us to get a pardon by having His Son pay the sentence for us. All you have to do is believe.

Yes, wants you fear God you have learned wisdom. People take God way to lightly, he does love us but there is only so much he takes before he has to spank us back into reality. Sometimes we go through a lot of bad before we see the light and get back with the program. God loves us because we are his kids, but like kids we also have to be corrected. Read the old testament.

If you relate this to any father/child relationship:
a child is afraid to do something wrong because his father would get angry and perhaps punished for going against his father's rules.
By the same token, just because the child is in trouble with the father does not mean that the father doesn't love the child.

Because contrary to popular religious belief.
"God" is not "Love", "God" is "Threats".
That's what the whole Hell thing is about. Threatening you into Loving and believing in God or ELSE. It's a control device.

Why Christians don't see that as true is called, "Selective Observation".

Do you fear your father? A loving father metes out discipline for the good of the child. Rebellious, resentful, and disobedient children require more and stronger discipline than obedient ones.

YES, and Loved Too, because HE Loves you To, because He gave His only Son For you. YOu better fear Him if you are not going to take the path to heaven through His Son Jesus Christ.

No. God doesn't exist.

You have to realize that religious people don't have any real evidence for the existence of their god, or even any good reason why there would be one.

Therefore, they resort to childhood indoctrination and emotional manipulation. Fear is one emotion they use. They also use guilt, love, pity and promises of reward.

I think you should fear God in the same way you would fear to upset someone you reeeeeaaaally love.
