Is it possible?

I am thinking put a world's first super-sonic subway or train on it so that you can get there and back in 2 hours or so?

I would think you can make a rest stops on the way as well as tow trucks standing by on rest stations every 100 miles or so.

If you want a supersonic train, you'll have to nix the tunnel idea. The air pressure in a reasonably sized tunnel would prevent you from ever getting to speed. That is a just a minor technical detail compared to actually making a tunnel or bridge that long. Here in Boston it cost us over $16 billion to make a tunnel under that city that was only 3 miles long :-)

Added: Also, as impractical as this idea may be, a previous poster blasted it on services and safety. The Bay Bridge Tunnel across the Chesapeake Bay has a police barrack, two gas stations, and a garage on it. So placing of services would be the least of the issues.

Get real. It is freaking thousands of miles. Doesn't that make a tunnel or bridge sound unrealistic.?

Where would the gas station go for anyone whose car needs to get refilled after they drove part way there? Where would the rest room be ("Next Rest Stop 1000 miles"). Where would the tow truck be if you got a flat tire along the way? Where would the firetrucks be if two cars crashed and caught on fire?

The idea is so impractical it should have been posted under Myths not under Engineering.

There is a secret tunnel but only Dubliner's can use it and only the ones who live on the North side of the River Liffey.Southsiders are banned, they have to take the ferry or the plane.

Too many ocean earthquakes to make that practical. If a tunnel could be bored, one undersea volcano or earthquake would damage or destroy it by flooding or shifting.
The best option if you hate planes would be a highspeed catamaran ship or hydrofoil.

Not realistically, but physically, yes. Practically, no. Not at all. Why would anyone want to do all that driving anyways?

The pacific ocean is much too deep and earth quake unstable.
