Five minutes will do the trick.
When I want hard boiled eggs I place three cups of water into the pan with my eggs and set the heat to medium. By the time the water comes to a rolling boil I shut off the heat and by the time the boiling stops and the water gets back to room temperature the eggs are done.
Its a lazy way of doing it but what the hey - I am lazy!

start with cold water in a pan. Place eggs in the cold water and bring to boil. Once water is boiling remove from heat and let the eggs sit for 10 minutes in the hot water this will result in the perfectly hard boiled egg.

I steep them for 14 minutes
Method
Place the eggs in a sauce pan large enough for all of the eggs to sit on the bottom. Cover the eggs with fresh cold water. Put a lid on the pan and set over high heat. When the water begins to boil and steam starts to escape from the pan, remove the pan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 14 minutes.
Drain the eggs and then plunge them into a large bowl of ice water. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
But you can boil them hard for 9.

Tom has the best method because steeping rather than boiling won't break the shell. Only add this: The eggs will be much easier to peel if you don't refrigerate them first. Peeling does significantly lower their shelf life, so you'd have to use them in a day or two.

Tom has the right idea...if you take them off the heat when it starts to boil, then you can avoid shells breaking...
