I personally do, but was wondering what the experience has been with others. I feel like with the sound coming only from the front it isn't as submersive. There isn't that feeling like tou are just surrounded by music, it sounds weak and incomplete to me. Apparently there are a lot of people out there that just don't like rear fill and I just have to ask, why? Another thing I have noticed that you can get from 6x9 coaxials that you cant from 6.5" components is more midbass. I know there are some crazy 6.5" midbass pumpin machines out there, but if your bass is coming from the trunk don't you think it's nice just to have a little thump of midbass between between you and your subs? I think it makes an excellent rolloff from your subs. If you don't care about SQ and you just love the sound of your subs drowning everything else out then you might be satisfied without rear speakers, but for me they really seem to add a very nice sound to my system.

And... your thoughts on this?

I have to have them. My music is just as loud as my bass.My rear 6x9' are facing directly towards the front. In my truck I took the headrests out and used the brackets to mount the 6x9's. Looks pretty cool and sounds really good. I also mounted tweeters with the 6x9's. 6 1/2's go in the front with the some tweeters too. All Alpine Type R. One 10" sub goes right in the middle of my console and puts out enough bass for 2 12's. I have my stuff balanced to the way I like it with respect to the others who have them different. P.S This Jessica chick is gettin outta hand with this biker stuff. Trust me nobody gives a damn.

I think if I was able to really create a realistic sound stage in my vehicle, then it would be time to seriously evaluate whether the rear speakers were something I'd keep. In almost any vehicle, if you're trying for a perfect sound stage, it requires installing speakers into new locations instead of the factory mounts. I don't have the space or time or money for the custom work involved in building the ideal sound stage. My car is a family car. So I went ahead and upgraded the rear speakers too when I installed my amps and speaker package, and I went with a nice all-around sound instead of perfect staging in the front. If I were building a SQ competition vehicle, then rear speakers may hurt more than they'll help.

What's surprising is how many people have a rear speaker in the vehicle that doesn't work at all, and they don't even notice it's missing. When I check in a car for an installation, I have to manually fade the audio to each speaker to test for sound, because it's very hard from the driver's position to tell whether there's one or two rear speakers. Some vehicles are actually designed with only one factory rear speaker, like a few 3-door pickups, or hatchback-style sports cars.

A lot of people still make the mistake of thinking that the rear speakers are more important than the front. It's probably a holdover from the old days when so many cars had 3.5" dash speakers and 6x9" rear speakers, and the first upgrade many people made was a new set of 6x9"s. I get people coming in with cars that have the same size speakers in the front and rear, and the first thing they buy is a set of rear speakers. I have to convince them that upgrading the fronts will give them a whole lot more improvement for their money.

When it comes down to perfect imaging and SQ, rear speakers' have got to go. They cause problems 'cause they are literally delayed in timing compared to the front and it's Hard to get them right, so noone wastes their time. Look at any vehcle that has great imaging, no rear fill!
The point of rear speakers is for the people in the back to hear music, that's it! Seriously!
I personally have more power in the rear than up front. That is, b/c I like loud and clear (and for people to hear it, loud and clear!) music rather than perfect imaging.
But, it all comes down to, what do YOU like?

Good Q.

Throw some 6.5 components in the back, screw 6x9's they seriously lack quality, but I think it is important to have a rear fill but fade it mostly to the front.
