well lots of people have said its bigger, but to try and explain that. if you go shopping in a high street in England you can walk from shop to shop, in fact you can walk across the whole town center in most towns in maybe half an hour. in America each shop sits in its own little parking lot and to walk form one lot to the next is difficult because the roads are so bust and often there are not paths to get to the next lot. so you have to drive. To get from one end of a town center ( and often the town centers are so spread out there isn't really a center at all) you could not walk it in less than a few hours.
restaurants are often likely to be fast food style. roads and distances always seem to be bigger. there do seem to be some no go areas in the cities but then again i think that is happening here more too. theres more money there, things are cheaper. i am sure there are many more differences but probably most importantly it costs a lot of money to go there and to stay.

Given that you use the word 'mom' I assume that you are American. Maybe your parents left for a reason and have valid concerns for not wanting you to go and visit. The only way you'll find out is to ask.
It may also depend on how old you are, where you want to go, how mature you are etc. I assume you are wanting to travel there on your own; perhaps your mum doesn't think you're up to travelling to a strange country by yourself.
If you are just badgering your 'mom' to take you there on holiday, it may be that either she has absolutely no interest in going to whichever place you want to visit or perhaps she can't afford it. Although the US is cheaper than the UK with regards to food & transport, when you add in flights, accommodation, travelling around/car rental & insurance plus the cost of entrance fees to the sites that tourists inevitably want to visit, it all starts adding up.
I suspect you may just need to wait until you are old enough to be able to do what you want, with your own money.

Maybe she's worried about crime, and how safe it is. She really needn't be though if she is. You see, here in the U.S., crime, and violent incidents get a lot of media coverage because it's sensational news that sells papers and gets big TV ratings. The truth of the matter is that overall the U.S. is a fairly safe place to live or visit, no worse than many places, and actually far safer than many others.
Your money will probably go farther here in the U.S. too. The dollar is weak compared to many other foreign currencies, so you'll probably be able to buy more for your money here.

The laws are different. I would say that America can be alot more dangerous than the UK. u din't say how old you were??? i wouldn't agree with my child go to America if she was younger than 18 and if she didn't know anyone from there. Try and find out why she doesnt want you to go?? But sometimes rules are there to be broken otherwise your parents will never let you grow up xXx

the USA is so big it has 4 different time zones....
West coast (California) is usually 8 hours behind us, then as you move accross the country, East coast (NYC) is only 5 hours behind us.
This is not always the same though because when our clocks change for summer time, they do not change them at the same time in the US so for a few weeks a year in between the times that our clocks and their clocks change, the time difference is one hour extra,.
hope this helps
