Listen Chief, I hate to pee on your teepee, but that joke has it's origins in WW II ( between 1943 and 1945 ), when the US forces were massing in Britain for the invasion of Europe.
All the British girls, long without an ample supply of men, because their's had been sent off to get marmalized by the filthy hun, were easy targets for the incoming yanks.
I was at school in the 50's and 60's, and the 'one yank and it's off' gag would barely even raise a groan even back then.
