It's not exactly intentional. The wheat and wheat gluten was tested and found to be potentially harmful, so it was labelled "low-grade" or "unfit for human consumption". Some El Cheapo corporate person saw that it was unfit for "human" consumption, assumed it was okay for animals, and since it was so cheap, bought large quantities of it. Nobody wants to poison pets, they just want to be cheap about getting this food made.

Well actually, I tried posting the following Question 5 times, and it wouldn't post. Why? I don't know. But, it makes one think in what I put in my Question.
Q:?
I Wonder If Pet Food Contaminations are The Result of Retaliation!?
I know there has been a lot of Food contamination events taking place across our country at rather large and wide spread levels over the last 6 months. NOW, it's our Dog Food and the the list of foods is getting larger.
I am beginning to wonder if this is a concerted act of hostility by others towards us.
I know that a lot of Migrant workers and Legal or Illegal Aliens work in many of our own fresh produce, mass produced food stuffs, and pet food chains.
I used to haul both Produce and Dog Foods directly from the growers and/or the Producers of the Dog Food from the plants of up to 48,000 lbs a Truck Load.
I think the Workers could be acting out towards us. I'm not sure, but, it seems very feasible and possible.
The Border issue could be the trigger point. And, afterall, we are at the Mercy of these workers every day of our lives whether we realize it or not. Any of them can get mad and do things to OUR Food let alone our Pets' Foods.
What do you think? Maybe? Possible?
I think this all more than a coincidence. One minute they say Arsenic, the next it's a plastics additive chemical.
Regardless of how it happened, it's been happening too much, and the FDA and other inspectors are letting too much food get widely diistributed and People/Animals are getting sick and/or dying so far after the fact that the losses can be huge.
They are not catching mistakes like they should, and this is happening way too much with mass produced foods and since many go out under many names then the information is slow to get people rightfully notified.
This country is so easy to disrupt and knock out of balance, that any unconventional acts or mistakes can freeze and grip this nation in fear and create a paranoid state.
I can't sit here and feel okay with saying some buyer bought some bad gluten and be that Cavalier to lean my head back and feel safe.
It's happened too much the last 6 months, and we are so much at the mercy of mistakes or intentional acts, that anyone that says they don't depend on anyone for anything had better think again.
We have a very fragile economy despite of our plentifulness. You put a wrench in any of our industries, especially that of food, and it creates and can cause sustained chaos.

I am more than certain that if people could as easily poison other people and then go on their merry way, they WOILD.
There is a dichotomy within us : part of it responds through an active conscience, the other part responds with little or none.
Animals, insects are defenseless creatures. Ew have the advantage over them.
If a person had it to poison some creature what would he make his victim?
Reasons: Disturbed Psyche.
Mental or emotional illness.
Ignorance. For example if one has an unwanted litter critters, and they want to get rid of it. Well, there is the old pillow case, barrel of water, or sling them into the river, while the critters are inside the bag. Takes care of the problem, does it not?
Instead of neutering the original cat or dog before it breeds, it seems preferred to kill them once they've bred more little critters.
Malice : such as getting back at someone for something, and being too atrociously cowardly to confront the situation with the other person.
An animal may bark or meow or fight at night . . so just "off IT" then that jerk can have a nice night's sleep.
Plain own cruelty for no reason.
Making the animal the scapegoat for frustrations.
Just not liking the animal. (PERIOD!)
Sociopathy . . As with Jeffrey Dahmmer, before he began killing and experimenting on people, he experimented with animals.
There are so many people that seem to have had a slow evolution into thinking, that it amazes me, when it comes to some truly terrible deeds!
Precautions : If you live in the city, do not let your animal, pet, run loose. Have him leashed to you. Be aware what he tries to eat from outside.
If you live in the country and have a lot more land, the pet may be able to frolic and run free within your grounds.
ALWAYS : REPORT ANY INCIDENCE YOU MAY BE AWARE OF ANIMAL ABUSE AND CRUELTY.
Do not ignore these people who delight because of their undefined warped behavior, make more victims out of animals.
There are severe fines and jail terms for these abusers of the helpless and innocent.
Do not allow them to become a danger to your animals or other person's!
And lastly, this was a personal experience of mine, a neighbor, where I live, claims that animals do not feel, because they have no soul . . therefore, according to some warped interpretation of his Bible, he thinks animals are more objects than anything.
Since that bit of information, given to me by this stubborn, ill informed ignoramus, I have not been able to say another word to him, because his thinking makes me sick . . but I was able to tell him this : "you know, Mr. so and so, you may think yourself a knowledgeable man, a former teacher . . but in reality, my cat Sonia has 1,000-fold more SOUL that you'd ever wish to have!
He dislikes me intensely for this . . but why should I care what an object (only) of a man, thinks of me?
I hope to have helped!

Personally I don't think most people would want to poison pets!! Pets sometimes eat stuff like rat poison if it is lying around, specially puppies tend to bite on anything that arouses their interest. Pets often get poisoned by accident. I do know that some people put their animals down by giving them sleeping drugs which kill them if the animal is suffering from usually an incurable illness.

People have been known to add poison to different products for many reasons...
People who are disgruntled employees.. perhaps they did not get a raise or were not promoted, etc...
People poison for revenge.. perhaps the poison came from someone trying to get revenge on the supplier of the corn or something because they did something that the criminal did not like...
People poison for money... perhaps someone is trying to lower the stock prices so they can make more money by buying stock while it is low and then wait until the threat of poison is over and sell their stock...
People poison on a dare... kids will do almost anything on a dare...
People poison because by accident... perhaps someone was just trying to get rid of some lethal chemicals and they dumped them into the wrong place.

Poor ethics such as
1. Corporate Greed- wanting profits by reducing costs . Costs become the greatest source of pressure for the workers to keep to almost nothing. Buy the cheapest ingredients
2. Failure to pay attention to details as important as product integrity to the point of criminal negligence.
2. Criminal Negligence
3. Criminal Intent
--------------------------------------
The death of pets is only the tip of the iceberg. Think about the fall out with lawsuits.
The manufacturing of food is a very important job. That is why the food industry are constantly on guard and vigilant about it.

Probably 'cos they hate that pet, or as a revenge to their owner. I don't think anyone will get the idea of poisoning human food.

Cruelty to animals?
It's a sociopath in our midst.
I have warned my son that if he ever has a friend who likes to injure animals (and he hasn't! I just like to warn my kids as I think of stuff. Maybe I shouldn't?), to look again at that "friend" and avoid that person because unequivocably, across the board, ANYONE who would deliberately injure something weaker (unless it's a roach or mouse!) is a sociopath. Normal people have an aversion to hurting others.

We had this dog that's very aggressive. He barks to anyone except us. He's in a crate though so he's harmless except that he always gives strangers annoying barks. Then one day he died of food poison. We all think some stranger poisoned him!
