First of all Tony Stewart has lost a lot of weight. I met him in person last week at the Home Depot, he's trimmed down a lot. He's a great driver and an awesome person to meet. Adding 2 more drivers to the chase makes common sense, and it's not because Tony Stewart has some bad luck last season.
If you want to say it's because of Stewart, you could also add that maybe it's because Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr. both missed the chase the year before. So is adding 2 more spots for their benefit? I think not.

i agree 100 percent. And i think dale jr and gordon missing it 2 years ago also played a role. I hate tony stewart. I think they should leave it at 10 drivers. Nascar shows favoritism. People say stewart is one of the best drivers, well, lol. I guess if stewart misses it this year, they will expand the field to 14 drivers? Where does it end

First up: you need a spell checker.
Second: The Chase stinks. No Chase equals Gordon with 5 cups
Third: Gordon & Jr missed the SECOND chase, not the first. Both ended up top-10 in ACTUAL POINTS.
Fourth: Stewart missed the 3rd chase, but still ended up 3rd in ACTUAL POINTS.
Fifth: NO WAY Kurt Busch shoulda ended up in the top-10 after being suspended his last 2 races that year.
There. I've vented. I feel better now. :P

Hey! First of all, I LIKE "SMOKE"!!! So, KMA!!
But, yes, NASCAR did change the format so that they could better ensure that the Chase for the Cup would include all of its "Superstars." Tony Stewart was not their only superstar to miss the chase. In its second year, both Jeff Gordon AND Dale Earnhardt Jr. missed the chase.
The NASCAR leadership is very much comparable to a bunch of snot nosed kids who change the rules at their own whim to suit what they need. They are after the sponsorship dollars first! A good, clean, fair, and entertaining racing season are just afterthoughts.

No. Three reasons.
1. The 400 point rule never mattered.
2. Big stars missing the Chase: Jeff Gordon, Dale Jr and Tony Stewart. I'm pretty sure Jr and Jeff were more of an issue to them that Tony. Jr and Jeff are NASCAR's two most popular drivers. Tony comes in like 7th or so.
3. In case something happens again like happened to Kurt Busch in 2005. A car who is parked for two races should NOT be able to finish in the top-10 in points.
BTW, try the spell check button. MISSED not MISTED and alse Stewart has an e not a u.

Not!
Since the start there have been good drivers left
out,Earnhardt,Gordon,Stewart......
Fans wnting there favorites in made enough noise NASCAR changed the rules to allow 12,but they said this was planned all the time.
I think the chase is a bunch of "MANURE".That should be done awaty with.
That's all I have to say about that.

I agree. You know what will happen when Dale Jr. or Jeff Gordon or any of NASCAR's top drivers miss the 12th place cutoff, and NASCAR will just mess with it even more.

personally i have never liked the whole "chase" format in the first place but nascar is trying to make themselves some more money and if the stars arent in it there will be less support hence less money

Definitely agree
If you're going to change it year after year to be sure 'certain' drivers always make the chase....then why not just go back to the way it used to be???
So dumb...and obvious.
