American Bulldogs along with other Bulldog breeds are notorious for having all kinds of structural bone abnormalcies especially Hip Dysplacia.

Definately see a Vet, and yes it can be growing pains and limping just as my GSD Male had off and on until he was an adult.

However; in your Breed, you may want to get an X-Ray and address anything now so he can comfortably grow and you can help minimize the pain now and have a heads up of any problems now.

Dogs also don't show pain real well. They may be in pain a lot of times, but, by nature; they suppress it as it can be seen as a weakness to other dogs or potential adversaries. This is why dogs don't show pain until it becomes intolerable to suppress it.

***ADDED*** Getting X-Rays now of course is not to get an OFI cert. A regular Vet can see any obvious problems immediately, and a good one will send it (the X-Ray) to a good Orthopedic Specialist for a precise diagnosis if there is a marginal abnormality seen or none at all just to be sure.

Sorry, it's not normal for any pup of 16 weeks to limp, you should get him to the vet who may want to x ray him. This could be a sign of a few heredity complaints so until you see the vet I would stop taking him out, and rest him.Take notice of how he moves in the house, does he struggle to get up? is he limping on a front or back leg? the more information you can tell your vet the more it will help. I hope all goes well but don't forget there is a lot that can be done these days for our dogs

Sadly this does not sound normal, but really not uncommon,
if you are in UK there are many unscrupulous breeders of this breed, they do not do health testing,ie;hip or elbow scoring of the puppies parents, and most only breed for the money,if limping he's in pain, you do not limp for no reason do you??????????????
I think a visit to your vet is in order,
it may be you are over exercising him, causing him pain, but best to get a vets expert advise
Good luck with your puppy, and I hope its nothing major

I'd take him to the vet for evaluation. Also, dogs his age shouldn't be going on leash walks at all because of their growing joints. It can put stress on them and cause problems later. He'll get all the exercise he needs through running and playing. Save the leash walks for dogs who are over 1 year old.

No it isn't normal, is he getting too much exercise? he shouldn't be getting more than about 10 minutes 3 times each day and nothing too strenuous, this is quite a heavy breed so their bones are very vulnerable at this age, so be very careful with him. In the meantime take him to the vet to get him checked out.

No it isn't normal - limping means pain and pain is bad! Could be any amount of things - acute arthritis (as caused by an injury), sprain, or a congenital condition like hip/elbow dysplasia. Please take to a vet for a diagnosis as you can't get one from Yahoo Answers!

I would suggest getting him to the vet to check it out. Furthermore, as a 16 week old puppy he shouldnt be going on "walks" per se. If you google Forced Exercise you will find that taking your pups for long walks, at such a young age, can damage their joints.

Take him to the vet as soon as you can. It may be just that you are walking him too far.
He is, after all, still just a baby that is still growing.
The vet will check him over & let you know of any serious problems there may be.
Hopefully nothing!

oh no..this is not normal - take it to the vets immediately! my dog had the same at around 10weeks...it was a dislocation during the birth apparently - maybe your dog has the same. again - mine was limping..no yelping - but this was the diagnosis - hope your dog is ok....bulldogs are beautiful!
