Hi. I am an avid animal lover and feel horrible about what happened. I would never ever hurt an animal so please know this was an accident. I was cutting a matted piece of fur from my himalayan and by accident cut his whiskers. I feel soooooooooooo bad and I know what they are used for. I just need to know if they will grow back and did I hurt him? I have never ever done this before and I'm really sorry. He still loves me and doesn't seem to have any different behavior.
Thanks guys. I really love being on here!! Really cool people!!

No need to worry animal whiskers are like human hair they cannot feel it when they are cut .
Yes they do use the whiskers to judge wheher they can get through a tight hole but they are clever enough to know what they will fit through and what they will not from past experience.
I have had burmese before and when they have kittens the Mother alway always chews off the whiskers of the kittens right back to a fine stubble.. doesn't do any harm and whiskers will grow back again.
PLease do not feel guilt or worry accidents happen and I am sure your cat hasn't even noticed he is short of a whisker or two.

Never fear, they will grow back good as new and unless you plucked the buggers out, he did not get hurt.

I know how hard it is to groom cats, they don't like keeping still! If ever you are grooming close to sensitive areas like whiskers or ears, etc use one hand (or have someone help you) to hold back the whiskers and carefully trim the fur.

It takes a little practice to groom cats, but as long as you are careful, you'll be fine.

If the kitty still loves you, it can't be that bad.

Good luck

Well, my cat's whiskers sometimes fall out and they grow back. So I am pretty sure that they will grow back in due time. No it doesn't hurt them, but their balance may be thrown off a little. I'm an avid animal lover too, I'm gonna become a veterinary assitant.

don't worry about it cats grow there whiskers back just like lizards grow there tails back if something trys to catch it.don't worry it wont make the cat crazy were it cant walk around any were it will be the same. i would cut the other side of the whiskers so it would match than half long then other half short.

Cats use their whiskers to see if their body will fit into small spaces - maybe your cat will get caught in a tight spot? Ever heard about that experiment where they cut off the rat's whiskers and they couldn't swim?

Don't worry, cat's whiskers do grow back, and it does not hurt them when they're cut off. They often end up getting shaved off in surgery if they have facial abscesses, they do grow back.

Please take your cat to the groomer or a vets in future if it has matts tho!

They will grow back. sometimes I find whiskers around my house they just shed them. It will take a few weeks before you notice a difference but they will grow back.
Accidents happen- be thankfully it wasnt a more serious injury. Good luck!

Cats' whiskers do fall out and are replaced with new ones from time to time anyway, so I would guess they'll eventually be replaced with full-grown whiskers again.
