If this is true, are air force personnel volunteering for the new light infantry positions or are they being sent to the new ground duty as an order in which they must go whether they like it or not?

Yea, but do they get the choice of opting out of being assigned to these infantry type duties? In my opinion, if I want infantry, i'll join the marines or army. So if i'm in the Air Force and a superior comes to me and says, "Derek, you've just been assigned to infantry type position in iraq", what are my options? Can I say, "no thank you, i'm happy doing my current job" and then hear him say, "okay then, i'll ask someone else"... or is it more like, "Derek, you've been assigned to an infantry type position in Iraq", then I say, "no thank you, i'm happy in my current job," then my superior replies, "sorry son, you don't have an option, you are going to iraq and you are doing ground duty as infantry, it is not in my hands"... so my question is, is this voluntrary on the Air Force enlistees part, or is it involuntary reassignment?

To chuckles... Yes, i am a man of my word and u seem to be a man who puts words in my mouth. i'm not enlisted yet dipshit so no, i didn't take an oath and since when did being concerned about a policy have anything to do with the level of respect you have for your country? If I can disagree with my family and love them at the same time, I can definately disagree with certain military policies while maintaining love and respect for my country. I'm sorry you are bitter and don't feel you got the respect you deserve...I respect your service. I may not be as passionate about dieing for my country as you, but I still deeply respect the blood spilled for our land. There are many ways of supporting and protecting our country, the USA.
Not everyone wants to be a part of such an organization as the military, but I do. And maybe I don't want to be the guy with the gun, but that doesn't mean I don't support the guys with the guns man! Go get some help man!

When you enlisted, you had to raise your right hand and swear an oath. Are you an oath breaker? Are you a man of your word? Or are you a jail house lawyer trying to save your skin. I met your type in 'Nam (70-72) they were called "U.S." NOT "R.A.", another word's, they were drafted. Were you drafted or did you volunteer? Are you a "N.G." or did you sign-up like I did? Your lucky, I got back stateside, and I got spit on and called a "baby-killer" in a busy airport with a thousand people looking on and no one said a thing! Quit crying or go to Canada like the others. One day, maybe you will get amnesty like the draft doggers in my day.

There's currently a "Blue to Green" program affecting the officer ranks within the Air Force. The program is designed to take officers from the USAF and transfer them with an option to the US Army. A form of attrition also based on current need. Additionally, alot of US Navy and USAF enlisted personnel are being reassigned to support positions to free up Army and Marine personnel for ground activity.

I can only speculate that some members are being forced to accept orders; while, I am certain others are volunteering for the duty.

Hope this helps!

Under the total force concept being implemented all USAF personnel will be trained in infantry techniques. They will subsequently be assigned to some infantry type duties.

I'm sure it is true.... US Navy personnel have been volunteering for such billets for the last several years, there are 4000 USN personnel currently on the ground IN Iraq, of which only half are Corpsmen, Medical or Spec-Operators.

The other half are filling what are commonly referred to as "in-lieu-of," or ILO, taskings, these are VOLUNTEER billets.

Air Force Security Forces have been doing this for awhile and as a result their training in these fields has grown more extensive.
