They meet with the man who is called upon to be Patriarch for Ward/Stake. The Patriarch will reveal to them details about their future life, and then bless them so that they can have a fulfilling life in loving service.
In one example, a man who considered himself unmarriageable was given a Patriarchal blessing that he would get married and raise a large family. At the time, he was uneducated, unemployed and suffering from significant lack of self confidence.
In a second example, a woman received her Patriarchal Blessing. Prior to the blessing, she was told that she could never bear children. When the Patriarch told her that she would marry and give birth to several children in a large family, she thought he was crazy.
Within two years, the man and woman had met and got married. They had five children. and he's Stake Patriarch now

I'm Lds too. But having an interest in other religions . I would say that most main stream churches wouldn't have anything like a patriachial blessing. They don't believe that god reveals anything to people today.A Psychic could say that they give people something equivelent to a patriachel blessing when they give a reading as they can give people an over view of there future. Just my thoughts.

In our church (anglican) we don't have patriarchical Blessings. We do believe however that every person can receive God's gifts as shown in 1 Cor. 12. The bible says that different people will have different gifts. Bare in mind God can give them at any time and take them at any time also can give more than one at the same time. It depends on how these gifts need to be used at that particular moment. So you see we don't need to rely on one person to do the blessing or prophesying anyone can be anointed to do it. My opinion is that patriarchical blessings are a manmade religious tradition

No, with the exception of the Community of Christ (RLDS) that schismed from the LDS Church in 1845. They believed Joseph Smith's son was supposed to become the next prophet and stayed in Missouri rather than going to Utah.
