When you cry,your tear flows,that's the provocation of the lacrymal glands to produce the continuous tears,so it is not abnormal for the eyelids to swell.

it's because you're placing pressure on your eyes. sometimes you'll notice you close your eyes really tight when you cry...that's partly another reason.
crying is hard work. it's draining physically and emotionally. for the most part, your eyes will swell only after having cried for a lengthy period of time.

yes they do. my whole face swells up and I look like a pink pig in mourning when I have cried for too long... (more than 5 minutes that is...) I hate that. the only thing that helps is cold cloth, time and sleep. (oh and no rubbing the eyes...)
