About the only Christian sect that I know of in this day and time that does not celebrate Christmas are the Jehovah's Witnesses. Almost 400 years ago, some early Pilgrim settlers in North America (mostly Congregationalists) refused to celebrate Christmas because it was seen as a Catholic tradition (Christmas = "Christ's Mass"). That has long since been dropped and Congregationalists now celebrate Christmas like most other Christians.

In countries like India, some groups of protestants celebrate Christmas. Protestants need a change. If they celebrate Christmas like Catholics, then there is no any difference between Catholics and Protestants. They always want to be Protestants, not Catholics.

What are you talking about? All protestants celebrate Christmas!!

Heck, even some Jews celebrate Christmas!

The only people who don't are members of the ACLU.

There is only one Christian I know who refuses to celebrate Christmas - me.

Christmas as we know it has very little to do with .... Christmas. It is at the wrong time of year for a start. Lambs are not born and sheep are not pastured in winter. I don't put decorations up because they have no foundation in the faith. Fir trees did not play a terribly big part in the nativity story. I only send cards because it's expected and some people would take offence if I didn't, however, I only send ones with aspects of the faith on them. I don't entertain cutsy ones or ones with santa or snowmen on them.

Last year, I made my own on the computer and personalised it. Everyone thought it was great. I might do the same this year and give away the cards I've already bought.

Santa is an abomination in my opinion. Had I been able to have children, I wouldn't have been able to look them in the eyes knowing that I'd let them believe a massive lie for the first ten years of their lives.

Before the cuddly little athiests say that I'd be teaching them a lie by bringing them up in the Faith. Obviously, if I went to church, they'd have to come too when they were young; you can't leave young children alone. However, they'd be brought up to know that although Mammy and Daddy believe in the Gospel, it was our choice and they would be free to believe or not as they chose (you can't force anyone to be a Christian) and if they chose not to believe, it wouldn't make any difference to our love for them.

Back to Christmas. I did once buy a nativity scene - a tasteful one - but I gave it away unopened as it smacked of idolatory to put it up - the Bible warns against graven images and idols.

I don't even eat the tradiitonal Christmas dinner, even though every year, my colleagues are up in arms. My boss has invited me in so that I'm not alone on Christmas. I like being alone, I don't eat dinner (lunch), I don't particularly like dinners, I certainly don't like being told I have to eat one and why should I want to go into work early just to have a meal I wouldn't enjoy.

Last Christmas I was on a double shift. You have to have a meal if you're a double shift - it's the rules. I took a lovely, crisp ham salad in and had another salad for tea.

I'm really a very cheerful, friendly, jolly person but I turn into a self-confessed Ebeneezer on 1st December for a whole month. New Years is even worse. I've never been able to stand all that jolly joining hands and singing jolly songs, even as a child, all I wanted to do was to go to bed instead of Mam making me stay up until midnight and join in a party and drink (a very small amount of) alcohol.

My job was to open the door to first foots being the youngest in the house but no-one ever came. They didn't twig until I was about ten and Mam asked a neighbour why they never came in and she told her that they did come but were told 'by the bairn' that they weren't welcome.

Well, Dad was chucked out of the house at 11.55 so that he could be our first foot (I did like that bit; seeing him outide making a big deal about being cold), therefore, if we'd already had a first foot, we didn't need any more and the party could be over by 12.05 and I could go to bed. The job was taken off me.

maybe some... or maybe ther just don't seem to celebrate it because that is not their religion. The word Christmas comes from the word Christ (because Christ was born Dec. 25) so actually they're thinking it's only for Christians but Christmas is for all of us to Celebrate.

The day that christmas is celebrated (Dec. 25th) was a pagan holiday. In an effort to ease the transision from paganism to christianity the church decided to celebrate christmas on the same day as this pagan festival. Some christains feel that each day is a day to celebrate the Lords birth, death, and resurection, and that we do not need a special day to commemorate it. Others, however, feel that celebrating christmas on christmas day is a good opportunity to reach the un-saved.

The following verses say that both views are A O K.

"One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone. 8If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord."

Protestants do actually! But they'd have to wait another 9 months!

Some celebrate, the other part does not. Don't you know that fact?

I may be going way out on a limb here, but I think it's because it's not Christmas.
