I do not think it is a sin. I have flirted with the idea myself, and like you I would never do it. I actually went as far as putting myself in a questionable situation and I just couldn't go through with it. Just the possibility of losing a GREAT thing over a stupid little fling brought me back to my senses. A little lusting is normal I think...however, acting on that would be a sin!

no, I don't think it's a sin, it's human nature. when I was a kid(around the time when God was young!)there was a thing called" an occasion of sin". this was something only the Catholic church could have come up with. It described a situation where you might have the POSSIBILITY of committing a sin; for example you going to the checkout where you KNEW a particular pretty girl would smile at you would be an occasion of sin; no sin had been committed, but the THINKING about it was construed as an occasion of sin. Now, if you think about it, that could apply to almost anything. you could call going into a bookshop an occasion of sin, cos you might want to browse in the naturist magazines or something; going into a luxury chocolate shop could be an occasion of sin; it might want to make you think about stuffing your face with chocolate and committing the sin of gluttony!
It's very normal to feel attracted to other human beings - as long as we don't act on the attraction. the real sin lies in the action, not the thinking of it.
I hope I've helped.

Okay, here's my perspective, based on what I've seen in the Bible and in talking with others about sin....
Most of us think about things that we should not think about from time to time. But that's because all of us face trials and temptations. When we realize it's wrong, then we need to repent and do what we can to run away from those thoughts. When it becomes sinful is when we dwell on it.
Let's take a food analogy. I like to eat healthy foods and I'm trying to lose a few pounds. If I keep thinking about eating my favorite hi-calorie food, I'll eventually indulge myself and blow my diet.
The same thing goes for not correcting our thoughts when we have impulses to do things we know are wrong.
What I've learned about sin is that the best way to combat it is to get into the Bible and pray. It helps us to develop our spiritual armor and it helps us to avoid falling into sin.

We can sin in our hearts daily. If someone drops a dollar bill and I'm tempted to pick it up and pocket it, instead of giving it to the owner, that is a sin of the heart also. If God convicts us of our thoughts, then we aren't having the thoughts that are mentioned in Philippians 4:8. We are in control of our thoughts and desires, more so than our hormones are.

the Lord Jesus put it plainly like this, "Whosoever lusteth after a married woman has already committed aldultery in his heart. In the Old Testament you had to actually catch people in the act of doing it. But now the Lord says, just acting the thoughts out in your mind is just as bad. I know how you feel. I am not married but I have struggled with sexual thoughts towards married women. Temptation itself is not a sin, but if you let those thoughts reside in your heart and mind eventually you will act on them. Jesus when on to say one time that it is not the things which go into a man which make him unclean, but the things that come out of his mouth. The Lord went on to list a number of things which make a man unclean and adultery was one of them. Yeah, if your thoughts are always consumed on another woman, you have already committed aldultery in the eyes of God. If your thinking about it, the ingredients for you to do aldultery is already in you. If you died you would die in sin before God and yes reap hell. Moreover, if the Spirit of God is convicting you about it, then you are in sin.

Actually it is:
But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Matthew 5:28
Of course anyone can be tempted, temptation is not a sin, but if when tempted we take it in and think about it, study how we could do it and so on then we are sinning in thought as this verse clearly shows.

your question and your comments are 2 different things. I think it is a sin to WANT to have an affair. I think it is human to be attracted to pretty girls, but you don't act on it because you love your wife. besides, it works both ways. I'm sure she's getting her share of smiles

Sounds normal to me. We are humans and sinful. I battle with it daily. I guess acting on these thoughts is what is a real sin. Everyone has there own personal battles.

The sin is committing Adultery, not thinking about it. Resisting temptation in the name of the lord is the whole point of the sins...
