I am Cherokee Indian and English, and look like your average run of the mill white girl. My sister discovered african heritage in our geneology. Since then, she refers to us as "N"gger's and justifes it by saying because we are one, it's okay to use that term. I have no use for that word in my world. What do you all think? (I personally find it to be very offensive, and it caused a big fight)

No offense to you but your sister sounds extremely annoying (I'm trying to put that nicely) There's something really weird and totally unacceptable about her calling herself a n****r. This is ridiculous but it reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Jerry's dentist converts to Judaism so that he can make all the offensive Jewish jokes and have it be 'ok' because he was Jewish. Your sister isn't being funny and should shut the hell up. You are totally right to find that offensive.

Being black, that word has no more power over me than what I choose to give it. You sister need to very careful. It is not the same with all black people. That word can be extremly offensive to some just because she's mocking something hurtful. White kids use it, hispanic kids use, they hear it in the music. I don't care anymore. grown non black people who use it, to me, are as smart as gnats. They keep getting in your face, until they get slapped!

The n word is only a word. Contrary to today's Webster's dictionary, a n can be a person of any color who is dumb, ignorant, etc. Do as I do. As long as you know it is not you, don't react to it. It may be hard at first but keep praying and ask God to help you. As soon as the person saying it knows that it has lost it's sting with you, they will eventually quit saying it. It was originated by n's themselves who were scared and confused. Don't be suckered into their mentality. May God Bless U.

No mystery here, it's a fobidden word and she found an excuse to use it. I think that even the word 'dumby' when describing a person is harmful and therefore wrong. I think the world around her will teach her the hard way to not use it. Hope they don't hurt her too much.

It is viewed as offensive these days - but thats the way language goes - its a fluid form. Personally I cant ever see any real need to use it - as there are always less contentious alternatives.

Your sister is having identity issues in her race and prefers to be a black person.

...Sorry. You can choose your friends, but not your relatives. Sometimes the only way you can convince someone not to do something is to humiliate them in front of the public and ask other people's opinions or bludgeon the offender with a bat.

we have lots of blacks here, and we call each other "N" in a friendly way , so it doesn't seem offensive at all. By the way, isn't it just another word for black?

Also, we only use that for each other, never to strangers or other people.

It's just a word! She has the right to say anything she wants, not matter what her heritage is.

Just don't use it no matter what! If you are not 100 % black don't use the word. I am half black and that word does not cross my mind.
