Make sure you only use rechargeable NiMH batteries (2500mAh or higher). Never use ordinary alkaline batteries in a digital camera. They just don't provide enough power. Rechargeables are designed to self discharge when not used, so make sure you always charge them before you need them.

Or if you don't want to use rechargeables, you should use high powered batteries such as Energizer e2 Lithium. They will provide long life, however are quite costly (and throwaway).

Your camera has a power save function, where it turns itself off when not used for a certain amount of time. The default is 3 minutes, so just make sure you don't have it set to 1 min.

If you still have problems after trying either of the recommended batteries above, then there could be a camera fault, in which case, you should exchange it for another one.

good luck...

The camera is rated for AA (2) batteries with NiMH recommended. Ensure you have a full charge on the NiMH. If they only give 1 or 2 shots, the camera is bad. Should give you hundreds! Take it back for an exchange, they should help you. If they won't help, call Kodak to get it excahnged, they'll do it.
