Your question is a bit vague and it is hard to make comments on it.

Since you didn't mention if your credit reports and scores are in good shape or not - but you did ask about whether you have to get a credit card - I'm guessing you don't have any revolving accounts and your reports are on the thin side?

If that's the case, applying and adding a credit card right before you are trying to get a bank loan probably will not help, in fact it may do more harm then good.
Adding a card now would help if you were planning on a loan in 6 or 8 months or longer.

I don't know what type of loan you are trying to get or if it would be a large loan or small loan, but you might go and speak to the bank before you start applying for credit cards.

One other thing you might do if you can, see if anyone (family member or friend) will add you to their card(s) as an authorized user.
If that is possible, be sure that the cards are in "good" standing, no lates and low utilization, or they will harm you rather than help you.
Be sure and request that the card companies report the card(s) on your credit reports.
You would gain the full history of the credit cards you are added to, as long as the card company reports. Most will report AU's but not all of them will.

Even if you do manage to be added as an AU and the card company reports, it will still take time for them to start reporting.
