my dad would always make me a mixture of slice lemon, honey & a shot of whiskey in a tea...that should knock the cough out of you for awhile (and maybe you too, if you drink enough) otherwise, sometimes you need an antibiotic to get rid of a cough. see the Dr. if it continues...

OK - I know this will sound strange - it's another old family remedy, but it works every time.
Get out the Vicks Vap-o-rub, and massage a generous amount into the bottoms of your feet. Then slip on some socks to keep your feet warm. In 10 to 20 minutes your coughing will stop, and you can fall asleep.
Unlike other medications that you take intermnally, you cannot apply too much Vicks, and you do not have to worry about drug interactions. I have yet to find a nurse, doctor or pharmacist who can explain how this works, but it does stop you from coughing.
Hope you feel better soon!

I have had bronchitis a couple of times and when it got so bad that I couldnt sleep, I would try not to cough. No matter how uncomforable it was. When you cough, your throat gets more irritated and swollen. When you stop even if you have to force yourself, it gets better. At least mine did. I'm sure that you have tried warm tea with honey and lemon. That helps loosen the cough up. I also tried a prescription cough syrup that had codiene in it along with a cough suppresant. That worked very well

Subject: Coughing
Sorry, no graphic for this one, and don't laugh, it works 100% of the time although the scientists at the Canada Research council (who discovered
it) aren't sure why.
To stop nighttime coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks.
Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief.
Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.
I heard the head of the Canada Research Council describe these findings on the part of their scientists when they were investigating the
effectiveness and usage of prescription cough medicines in children as compared to alternative therapies like accupressure. Just happened to tune in A.M. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so, I listened.
It was a surprising finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, and in addition, to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.
Lolly tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me, this was a deep, ( incredibly annoying!) every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and she slept cough free for hours every night that she used it.

I guess try cough drops ? I mean there not the best soloution but they will give you couple minutes of Cough-free time.
Also drink warm fluids for your throat to feel better.
( This means NO Juices, or soda, or alchoholic beverages )
Try water, milk, and other drinks and heat it too.

i'm going through the same thing as you right now, i feel like i've coughed up my lungs and everyone elses lungs. and my chest and back hurt too from coughing. the only thing that's helped me a bit is green tea w/ honey, and sit in a steamy shower. i'm also taking dayquil which helps somewhat but as soon as it starts wearing off back to coughing it is...good luck

Mix equal quantities of honey and apple cider vinegar. Take a few sips every 15 mins or so. Hold it at the back of your mouth for a couple of seconds before you swallow it. Both the honey and the vinegar act as mild antibiotics, and the honey will also help soothe your throat.
