I do like the name Mackenzie.
Who is it that you are wanting to name?
If its your child, then its your decision. Who named you?
The name shouldn't be that important to the family. They will love the baby even if she is named Mackenzie. If they won't love her because of her name, then they don't deserve to have a say.

I LOVE THE NAME MACKENZIE!!
I think it is a very sweet and tough sounding name for a girl. Her best friends will call her Mac or Maccie, and I think that sounds cute.
Go with your choice of names. The family will adjust. Most people don't like things unfamiliar to us, including names. So once they realize you are serious about the name and you start referring to the baby as Mackenzie they will get use to it and come around.
Congratulations!!! And Good Luck!!

However you spell it, it sounds grand and that was your goal. I think it's tough.
I recently heard, from my sis-in-law, that 'they' didn't like my sons name but got used to it. I was ready to slap her but thank god, we were on the phone. I have never told her how hurtful that was and perhaps should have. Anyway, she was feeling insecure about the name she chose for her first because of someone's comment. I am always supportive of her and talked her into it, blah blah blah, you need to name your child for you, no one else. But truthfully, I would tell anyone that. As much as I was hurt by her long overdue comment, I wouldn't think twice about what I named my son because I don't give a frick what anyone thinks. I convinced myself she was jealous that we had the first grandchild and wanted me to feel bad (to make myself not hate her more).
There will always be someone that doesn't agree with what you do, even if it's something as simple as a name. I know, the name can define the baby and hinder and all that, I mean the simple act of naming. The hard stuff is yet to come. Pick your battles and keep your furry for those comments that need fire.
I let the comment roll off my back (after the initial shock and anger that someone could say such a thing).
Chin up buttercup!

Mackenzie was a name I picked out when I was 10! I love it, but it is very, very common. But, if you like it, who CARES if your family doesn't? I was worried about this too, but when you look at your child, you won't see her as anything but what you call her. So, if she's a Mackenzie, your family will love it, because, well, she'll just be Mackenzie - nothing else! I also like Dylan and Devon for girls.....and my husband likes Tyler for a girl.

I love the name Mackenzie. She's your baby, you name her whatever you like. Your family won't love the baby any less just because they don't like her name. If they do, then there is something wrong with them. Best wishes to you!

I think it's nice, too. Maybe as a middle name? One thing -- it's hard to spell. People are going to be spelling it McKenzie, MacKenzy, MicKensie and a whole lot of different ways. But the girl can always take "Miki" as a nickname if she wants something a little more feminine. Or Kay. Or Em.

Who is the name for, and why do you "need a tough girl's name"? If it's for a baby, she may hate having a name like that when she gets a little older.

I considered Mackenzie as well, until someone pointed out that it sounds like a pornstar. If my son was a girl, he would have been Madeline, Emily, or Therese. Why does it have to be tough? Tough name or not, your daughter will be who she is.
