I have lived in GA my entire life and Atlanta has never been that special to me. So I was wondering, what do non-geogians think of the ATL?

You have a WONDERFUL city. I lived in Atlanta for a few months and was thoroughly impressed: downtown is well-developed and clean, there's lots to do and the crime rate is lower than it is in most major US cities, the surrounding cities (suburbs) are well-maintained and have lots of stores and restaurants, and the highway system allows access to any part of town relatively quickly.

On the other hand, I didn't experience much "southern hospitality" ... and I have no idea why there are so many gay men there. I met a few beautiful and successful black women, and they all bemoaned the large number of homosexual black men in Atlanta.

I recently read a book that ranked over 300 American cities, and Atlanta came in at #7 ... higher than any other major US city. So be proud: the city you call home is truly extraordinary.

According to Wikipedia. Atlanta is a 10 top city and world gamma city.

12 points:London, New York, Paris, Tokyo
10 points: Chicago, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Los Angeles,Milan, Singapore
9 points: San Francisco, Sydney, Toronto,Zürich
8 points: Brussels Madrid Mexico City São Paulo
7 points: Moscow Seoul
6 points Amsterdam Boston Caracas Dallas Düsseldorf Geneva Houston Jakarta Johannesburg Melbourne Osaka
Prague Santiago Taipei Washington, D.C.
5 points: Bangkok Beijing Montreal Rome Stockholm Warsaw
4 points: Atlanta Barcelona Berlin Budapest Buenos Aires
Copenhagen Hamburg Istanbul Kuala Lumpur Manila Miami
Minneapolis Munich Shanghai

I would have to Agree. Atlanta is one of the top 10 best cities in the USA, NOT Bad, considering there are over 300 metros in the U.S. Its not NY, Chicago, DC, La and SF but it holds over 5 million people in the metro and a cheaper alternative for many middle class people that work here.

Housing is very cheap, and taxes are reasonable. Nightlife is ok to good and the people here are very friendly compared to other major cities. Overall, Atlanta is a great city and Atlantans should be proud!

there are nice restaurants, good shopping, decent weather, but no beach. Atlanta is the 3rd largest corporate headquarters in the US. Meaning, Like myself, many relocate here for work, and can afford to live her.

Hmmmmm. Ranking along side Budapest? That is putting Atlanta right up there huh? Atlanta is the reason you hear people saying there are two georgias.

I hate driving through Atlanta, too many lanes. Other than that, I think nothing of the city.

I lived there all my life...until 1 year ago. Now that I am in another state I can look back and wonder "why did I stay soooo long?" There is NO WAY I would ever consider moving back there.

you should try another city for a while. you will be amazed!!

Busiest airport in USA since it is the connection hub.
I don't think I will ever live there. Higher % of foreclosures and loan defaults than anywhere else in USA

Very big, traffic is a nightmare and the airport is confusing.
My family was from Medder (spelling?) & Savannah, but no one still lives there now.

I would not be impressed by the traffic. I hear the my sister think that it is wat too ghetto. But from what I seen it is a beautiful city. Would I live there no? I am a jersey girl at heart.

I don't think the South should have fought for it. Too much dang traffic and weirdos. Needs a bypass around the bypass.
