Honesty is always the best option, even if you don't like the outcome of the judge's decision.

Coming from a former Air Force cop who had to go to court on a near monthly basis for civilian tickets written on our base as well as civilian arrests, I can tell you from experience, it's all about your attitude. We had one of the hardest magistrates in the area. Depending on how his mood was during court, we saw people in your situation get off with a slap on the wrist and a fine to getting jail time for shoplifting.

The biggest way to piss off the judge is to have a bad attitude when you walk in to his courtroom. Be dressed to make a nice first impression. Wear a nice outfit, no jeans and tank tops (our judge would kick people out of his court if they showed up wearing jeans with holes in them and tank tops).
Address the judge as "sir" or "ma'am". Stand up when you are being spoken to. Be honest when answering questions. If it's really your first offense, you might just get off with a fine but also be prepared to lose your license.

The arresting officer should be there to testify also. A lot of the judge's decision will depend on what your attitude was during the arrest. If the officer says you were calm and cooperative during the arrest, that will look a lot better than the officer stating you were combative.

Whatever happens though, let's hope you learned a valuable lesson. Don't do it again.

Hire an attorney and SHUT UP!!. The attorney will be able to tell you before you ever get to court what to expect - but don't put too much faith in the attorney either. It's all about the money - how much can the attorney make and how much your fines will be. The probation will be the worst - because they will set you up to fail. Be VERY careful. A probation violation is the easiest way for them to get you in jail with no trial. Lobby for the shortest probation and get it suspended as soon as you pay your fine.

get prepared for more, you are already a dope head, the best thing that you can do is have them lock you up now so you can get clean.......other wise it will bring you down, because there is no one time smoker of meth.......you will do it again, you will get caught again, and sooner rather then later you will go to prison.........I deal with it everyday.....i know you will say that them not me I'm different........NOT.....stop doing meth now or prepare to rot away and die.....sounds hard but its the truth..just get on the net and search some sites on meth and the effects it has on the body.......i already know that the high you receive the first time will never happen again.......that is why drugs are illegal.....go to court ask for help.....please save yourself....................................................................................don't be disappointing to the ones that love you.......

if you are in San Francisco you will get a slap on the wrist, don't worry very doubtful that a first offense lands you in jail. You will probably be put into a program and as long as you complete it with no more getting in trouble that will be the end of it,.
