Isaiah 45:7
" I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things"

This is according to the King James Bible.

Whether this is a mistranslation or not, I can't answer. But this is probably the verse that the Christian was referring to.

That scripture doesn't exist. Evil is the result of creatures with free will purposefully misusing it. God doesn't create evil. I would tell that born-again Christian to show me the scripture in the Bible, or 'go fly a kite'.

brother_stinky's Bible translation is flawed. Instead of "evil", the word should be "calamity". These are two very different things. Punishment of an evil-doer would be calamity, but that punishment is not evil.

Isaiah 45:7 says
"7 I form the light and create darkness,
I bring prosperity and create disaster;
I, the LORD, do all these things." NIV Bible

Not really the same as evil.

Cheers

God didn't create evil; he allowed angels(and later humans) to have free will, and THEY brought evil into their respective worlds.
