There is no doubt that Muhammad Ali would win this fight. He is just too quick and too polished for Marciano. He wins by an easy unanimous decision or a late KO . He might want it to go the distance just to give people a good show and to taunt Marciano whose slowness would be made evident from the beginning. Remember Walcott was well ahead on points in their first contest but Walcott got careless and let Marciano get inside to knock him out in the 13th round. Ali could take a punch with the best of them and I do not think that Marciano could knock out or knock down Ali unless there is a wicked left hook in Marciano's retinue.

Rocky Marciano is the biggest hoax that boxing ever put out. His record is laced with nobodies and ex somebodies. If you put Marciano in any other heavyweight great era, he wouldnt even crack top ten. I would consider a better question "Who would win, Rocky Marciano or Joe Frazier?".
Ali fought thru, over the better part of fifteen or twenty years, some of the best of multiple eras. In many cases, he made them look stupid for even signing the contract to fight him.
Marciano will always be the "legend that never was". Hes smoke and no fire. ALL of the great names he fought, were great at least ten years before he fought them.
Ali, one sided a** whipping, non competitive...Lewis versus Tyson-esque beating until Marciano hit the canvas, slid thru the ropes, and landed in the second row...where he would wake up...grab some popcorn...start eating and ask "Who won?"

If Ali tried to rope-a-dope, R. M. would break him down. 185 or not.
If Ali does the smart thing and goes for points, he wins hands down.
The thing is that R M has flash KO in both hands in the 12th round and all he would need is that one good punch. He was never a very good boxer, whereas Ali was known as one of the best in history, not to mention being much heavier, having reach, and footwork. But R.M. retired at just the right time to stay perfect whereas Ali stuck it out.

I would have to say Ali. As someone stated, his opponents are different then Ali's. And usually the "Greatest" is the greatest when it some to fighting a fighter like Marciano. Liston is one and Foreman is two. Those guys could rip heads off opponents. Especially Liston, he mauled Patterson twice. But "The Rock" is definately in the top 3.

This is a question that will be asked forever. Personally I think Rocky Marciano would win in a late KO. They both were two of, if not the two greatest boxers of our time.

Marciano fought hand-picked opponents, beat a 42 year-old Joe Louis, a 39 year-old Jersey Joe Walcott, and never really tested himself against the best fighters until he fought Archie Moore, who knocked Marciano down and gave him a hard time until Marciano stopped him in the eighth. Moore was a light-heavyweight, perhaps the greatest light-heavyweight ever, but still a light heavyweight. Marciano retired at age 32.
Ali was never knocked out until the Holmes fight, when he was 38 and suffering from Parkinsons disease. he beat some guys who would likely have beaten Marciano, including Foreman, Frazier, and maybe Norton, Lyle, Liston and Shavers.
Others who would have beaten Marciano in his prime---Holmes, Tyson, Joe Louis, Jack Johnson, maybe Jack Dempsey, Bob Fitzsimmons.
Marciano fought tough hand-picked opponents. he got a shot at an aging champ who beat the snot out of him for a dozen rounds, until Marciano landed one tremendous punch. then Marciano fought tough, hand-picked opponents until he retired at age 32 with 49 victories and no losses.
Who, in his prime could have beaten Ali in his prime? Maybe Joe Louis. Maybe Jack Johnson. Maybe no one.
Ali could take a body punch better than anyone, once finished a 12 round fight after suffering a broken jaw in the 3rd round, and fought some of the best fighters in the history of the sport---especially George Foreman.
Ali versus Marciano? Ali by KO in the 9th or 10th

Ali too quick. Uses slashing jabs to end fight in 7 due to Marciano cuts.

Crazbul, you don't know ****! Ali would have danced around him and outpointed and outboxed him badly, probably TKO'ing him late. Easy win for Ali. People need to stop being fooled by Marciano's record, he never fought a great fighter in their prime, and his era was weak.

You saw Ali-Frazier. Now, imagine a smaller Frazier with a few more smarts and less intensity.
The Rock would give him trouble, especially with body punching. But Marciano was 5'10 185.
Ali by decision, after taking a few dents.

Ali was the fastest heavyweight I have ever seen. He could hit hard, and could take a punch, even though he was hurt in several fights. I can't see him losing in his prime. The best thing about Ali is he fought all of the contenders, people that Patterson would never give a chance, and were ranked their entire careers, but could never get a shot at the crown. He fought them all and beat them.
