Now your talking.I have been for the fastest 43 all a long.As for the breakdown in points sounds good from here.
Drop the Chase B. S.
Quailifing is the "first" race of the weekend.
That's all I have to say about that.

NO Points ever for Q. NASCAR is for racers not qualifiers.
The current Points System is just about right, but some fone tuning may be in order.
Since NASCAR has now gone to a seeding system for the chase, resetting 12 drivers points totals to the exact same level, then adding points based on wins is fine.
Perhaps during the chase, points should be awared thusly:
Award normal points for final position, then if a Chaser finishes in the top ten, add "10" points to the score. If a driver finishes outside the top ten, deduct "10" points for the first half of the chase. Then during the final 5 races, keep the incentive points the same but add or deduct for in or out of Top 5 finishers.
Another method could be to award normal finish position points, then have a race points race within a points race:
All 12 drivers to be awarded extra points in regards to relative finish with each other, say with the Chaser closest to the front gets 15 additional points, second closest gets 12, third closest gets 10, then 9,8,7, etc thru the back marker of the Chasers. finish outside the Top Twenty, deduct 10 points.
Either of those 2 adjustments should ensure that there will never be anymore "riding" to the "Cup".
One of the most exciting Cup wins took place under the old system, in 1992 when the standings were so close going into the final race at Atlanta, up to 6 drivers stood a chance to win. Davey Allison crashed out and was eliminated. The others had less than stellar performances and it came down to 2.
Elliot won the race, Kulwicki finished second but won the Cup because he led 1 more lap than Elliot, giving Alan the 5 Bonus Points for leading the most putting a lock on the Championship, provided he could maintain seond place.(he had to race, for if he got passed, no Cup) His margin over Elliot was 10 points in the final standings and he overcame a 278 point deficit over the final 6 races to win his first and only Cup before his tragic death in a plane crash attempting to get to Bristol the following year.

No. Sorry, but I don't like it. There are three things that should be changed, IMO:
1. More points for wins. Give the winner 200 (with a potential 210 with BP). That's 30 more than 2nd.
2. 5 points for the pole. The ONLY points awarded for qualifying!
3. 35-43 pays the same points. Helps ease the bad days. I don't like 30-43 because very rarely is the 30th place car NOT running. 35-43 so if someone takes you out or your engine blows, it helps a little bit.

NO. Not for the main points system. Qualifying is another strategy play for some teams. Some guys like to sandbag in qualifying at tracks like Talledaga. The race is the main event, not the showing up to qualify. Hell, I'd be a pointing Nascar driver if that was the case.
Giving a seperate points system just for qualifying might be a fun idea however. Kinda like the team owner points and the manufactuares cup.
DennisIsevils..........is wrong considering Nascar tickets are sold out 1 year in advance, If my favorite guy didn't qualify, I'd be about 11 months and 30 days late on decideing NOT to by a ticket. PFFT.

Listen. There will never be a point system that will be actually a fair system. Do we give enough points for wins? Do we give enough points for runner ups? How come NASCAR doesnt employ a math wiz? You know? Like that guy on "Numbers"? I bet he could figure the crap out. Now NASCAR is allowing the top 12 drivers in the chase. Next year? Maybe the the top 20. Why not let the Daytona 500 decide. We wont watch races, but we will watch testing. Then in November, an all shoot out at Daytona. Just one race..one champion. I am a big Jeff Gordan fan.

I like your plan but I do not fully agree on the qualifying. This is because not always the best drivers qualify in the top. NASCAR is about racing not qualifying. The drivers that qualify in the top are rewarded by starting in the front ,but I don't think they should get points for it(Or else Ryan Newman would be the points leader, LOL). I do agree that NASCAR should get a new points system but one that rewards the winner more not the pole sitter.

My only gripe is that they should have left it at 10 drivers in the chase rather than 12. I think it's better because this way you don't have somebody getting a zillion points and having the championship already won half way through the season.
As for provisionals that was more a marketing decision for the race tracks. Back in the days before NASCAR was getting the kind of media coverage, merchandise sales, and sponsorship/advertising revenue it gets now most races depended on ticket sales to make all their money and if too many popular drivers failed to make the race that means way fewer tickets will get sold. Not good for business if you're counting on gate money to get the bills paid.

I wish they had not changed the winston cup points system, with the exception of awarding more points for winning.
And since they did change it, why expand to let 12 in, top ten was better.

I would love to see them go back to the 'good old days' of the Winston Cup points system. This race for the chase thing stinks.

it just was, revised at the end of last season, awarding more points for a win. I dont want to get into a deal like. back in the '70's where, the rules changed every couple of weeks.
