Santa Claus can't be disproved either, but if you found out your gov't was basing national policy on the assumption that he exists and has some knowledge about an ultimate ethical code, wouldn't you argue the point?

Because Christians say "we are a Christian Nation" and that they are planning on taking over and bringing in a new world order, and that upsets a lot of people, and so they argue.

Each Christian "sect" thinks the others are wrong, so they argue about why the others are so dumb as to not see the "truth"

Yes, you mean God, not religion. Besides which, I believe that God can be indirectly proven. People argue about religion because many claim to follow certain philosophies or holy books, yet their actions belie these claims. Many religions claiming to be Christian put man-made traditions above things clearly stated in the Bible, which is the authority in Christian life.
