400 years before Christ, socrates was teaching very similar ethical principles. They both had an enormous influence on western thought, and consequently Jesus may have been influenced by socrates inadvertantly. And most interestingly both jesus and socrates were persecuted for their beliefs. Aside from the fact that jesus was viewed as more than a man, it looks to me that they lived a very similar life, and they both died for what they belive in.

That is a hell of a question! I don't believe he is, technically. but he is looked up to quite a bit. He was crucified and many people believe he is the messiah and not Socrates. I think you already know this.

Because Socrates never claimed to be God. He was a Monotheist though, but the authorities condemned him of Atheism. He didn't believe in the hogwash of several gods. Someone told him, "Why believe in one god when you could have many?"

well....offhand, the fact that socrates was not the only begotten Son of God, performed no miracles, healed no one, raised no one from the dead, couldn't command a storm to cease, had no ability to walk on water, and did not come back from the dead might have something to do with it...
