But thats a bit unethical isn't it? I mean, arresting minors that's causing a little bit of concern as what this country is turning out to be. I mean don't get me wrong, I know it's bad enough that their illegal but putting kids into detention centers?! Come on now, you have to have some type of iron heart to not feel that. What if your OWN KIDS were locked up, and it's not their fault that their parents choose to come here, so why should they suffer? I'm doing this because I'm doing a research on illegal documentation on minors for a report, so I just wanted some feedback on this thing!

I feel you guys on the illegal part, but being in prison at an early age really messes with your head man. I just don't understand why they have to do this. Me as a citizen thinks they need to do a reform about illegal minors. I mean, I think they should be given the right to stay here if they kept up their grades and at least did some community service...

BUT what if (god-forbid) all illegals were deported, and (now I know I'm going to sound a little weird but,) what happens to all the mexicans, el salvadoreans, guamanians, etc who work on the streets to build houses and crap left? No more new houses in the suburbs anymore?

They're heartless, it's no use. They're not going to listen. To them everything is right or wrong and there are no grey spots. They're just children looking for better opportunities, since their children have been born with them they don't care about others. Sad isn't it? And then they say this land is full of opportunities...yeah, for those born here.....or for those with the thousands of dollars and with loads of time to wait with no problem....
And it isn't always the parents crossing them, there are many that cross by themselves to get a better life and help their family. You don't need to be a mother or a father to know what the importance of family is.
And yeah, it's completely exact to compare children looking for jobs and food to children who kill.....whatever.
To Monet- Mexicans were natives too...don't forget our history. They stole your land except they didn't kick you guys out.

I am afraid you are losing your time. As someone else said, many people just look black or white, good or bad, without understanding, that there are gray spots and very complicated situations that you can not describe just as good or bad.
I understand the whole think and the problems with inmigrants, specially when some of them are illegal or/and they do not try to integrate themselves in their new homeland (low, language, traditions etc.).
But each problem has two faces, and each conflict can be seen at least from two different points of view.
Personally I can understand when so many people get angry with the fact that many inmigrants make a sort of invasion and some of them make troubles, normally people tolerate better the the own people's mistakes than those ones coming from strangers.
But I also can understand that people who takes the risk to inmigrate in an illegal way are just desesperated, and they normally do not have anything else to lose, I mean crossing the border in an illegal way is not exactly a fun trip to Disney, a lot of people die, when they try. They risk their lives, because they do not see any other solution. Honestly I do not really believe that many people seriously think about what they would do, if they were the the shoes of their hated illegal inmigrants.
People who believes that illegal inmigrants do not know about the risk they take are in most of the cases wrong. Ergo: The problem is complicate, very, very complicate.
In a way both sides (citizens who complain about illegal inmigration and illegal inmigrants) are right, but they are also wrong. Again imho, the problem is much more complicated as many people want to believe.
Although I understand the reasons why illegal inmigration is so strong condened, I really, really can not understand how is possible that people from a country that claims to be civilized and built over christian principes can not only agree but support that children be treated in such a brutal way. I am not talking about criminal teenagers. I am talking about small children, how can someone who considers himself able to think in a reasonable way see as normal to call „criminals“ children, who are perhaps 9 or 5 or 1 or even just babies? I mean, how is it possible that someone who believes to be intelligent can consider such kids to be responsibles for a crime or even had the choise to travel or not to USA.
Sorry but I can not understand somenthing like that. Although I can understand why illegal inmigration is not good seen, I'll never be able to understand that for some people there are reasons that justify children abuse. Once again I understand why the parents crossed the border, but I do not understand that a "civilized" country do not find an other way to deal with the situation.
By the way, I do not live in USA, but I can say, thanks God not all american people think in that way. Such a way of thinking is in my opinion much more criminal and unmoral than the "crime" such small kids are accused, they just can't do anything about their situations.
For God's sake they are just kids!

I've read the answers so far and what you all don't seem to be understanding is the fact that the PARENTS crossed the border illegally and either brought the children with them or gave birth to them here in the U.S.A. If They were born here they are legally United States citizens and have the right to stay here. Also the person asking the question gave no reference to the minors that are being locked up commiting a crime (other than being of another race)and that seems to be the problem here-prejudice.By the way I am a middle-upper class citizen.

They've already done this. Not too long ago in Arizona, two teenagers were pulled over for speeding. When asked for a licence, the teenager said that they only had a licence for Mexico. Upon further investigation, police found that the teenagers were illegal immigrants. The teenagers were taken into custody, and were being prepared to be deported. Their parents were notified to come pick them up or else the teenagers would be deported. Their parents never showed up and the teenagers were deported.

I stand with Pa0 on this. It is totally inhumane and ICE doesn't notice these are people coming here to survive. This country contradicts itself, where is the justice? Where is the freedom? Is it in this country having such a high crime rate? And I mean true crime, murders, robberies, rapes, NOT CROSSING OVER TO A COUNTRY TO FIND A JOB AND EAT. If you consider that a crime, you are stupid. I support anybody that wants to work, don't EVEN compare them to the children of Americans that kill and are out buying and selling drugs or raping. They are completely different situations. Are these people serious with their answers? If they are OPEN YOUR EYES! They aren't criminals, a stupid law doesn't make a person good or bad, its their intentions. I dont think these nine year olds are coming here with the intention to attack or steal from Americans. Take a chill pill American and stop being so paranoid.

Why would arresting someone who broke the law be wrong?
I don't understand your reasoning at all.
They can't be sent back if they aren't picked up, now can they?

The detention centers are an attempt to be KIND by keeping them all together. The kids have school and recess and it is supposed to be temporary. What would you have us do? How else do you manage it? Australia and the UK do the same thing.
And news flash about the houses in the suburbs... our people WANT THOSE JOBS.

illegal means that their breaking the law. I believe it's a wonderful law. My kids won't be deported from the US because I'm Native American and we're not breaking the law.
The last time I checked, an immigrant is not an American born citizen for the US
Hey, you European Union lovers, if you're so into American opening our borders down south. Why don't you let all the Turkeys in.......hmmmmmmm. That's what I thought. The same reason !

Should the police arrest children that murder people?
Should the police arrest children that rape?
Should the police arrest children that sell drugs?
Should the police arrest children that steal?
Etc.
Then why shouldn't ICE arrest children that are here illegally?
BTW, the children are rarely put in jail (exception if the family is arrested and the parents want the children to be in jail with them), normally they are placed in the custody of non-government organizations NGOs like churches who care for them.

You know what, I think this whole immigration stuff is crap. People have a right to come here and the whole immigration thing is crazy to deal with. Why do you think they come here as they do in the first place? I completely support illegal Mexicans who are here and who also plan to come here because they just want a better life for themselves and their family's just like we do. But for them to come here everyone pitches a ***** about it. I do not feel it is right for anyone illegal to be locked up for being here illegally, if people have that big of a problem with it, why not try and help those who are here, and help make things a better process that is more convenient for others who want to come here. Complaining will not do nothing but make matters worse on themselves, not them. So is it wrong to lock up illegal kids, umm, yes.

first of all, those kids would not be where they are if it was not for the parents coming here illegally. second, i would never immigrate to another country illegally. i would love to move to Australia or England. but, i will not do it illegally. i would never put my children in that kind of situation. what kind of parents would do that to their kids?
