I prayed for 2 yrs for God to make a man I was so in love with to love me back . Then finally I changed my prayer to,"God,if you don't want that for me please make me stop wanting him so much."One week later I got a dream job. I was working on a major movie as a make up artist, hob-nobbing with movie stars. My priorities kinda changed.lol! I lost my desparate need for him to love me. Now years later I say,"Thank you God,for not answering that prayer."
And sometimes he does answer your prayer but it isn't with the snap of a finger. He does use time and events to answer prayers. He may have said,"Yes" to your prayer but it it has to play out in time. I am trying to remember that with a prayer I have been praying for sometime about one of my children. Instead of praying the same request every night I now thank God for hearing my prayer and try to trust that He has already determined the outcome. Whatever it is,it is gonna be in my best interest.Sorry this was SO long. Kepp talking to Him.He is listening!

well I consider myself atheist, but I was raised as a Southern Baptist so I will tell you what the church's stance is on it all. God can do anything, whether it be big or small. You can't ask for anything that would be against the commandments, or what the Bible teaches. For instance you can't ask for God to help you rob a bank or something like that. but if it is a legitimate prayer prayed with faith, God will answer it. It may not be the answer you want or expected. The answer is sometimes "no". God always answers prayers, just in the way that He sees best for his will in your life. God doesn't give us everything we want because He sees the bigger picture, He knows what is going to happen to us in our future, and what we are asking for at the present may not be the best thing for us. Now all that said, I don't believe any of it. But that's the christian viewpoint.

In the Movie "Oh God" George Burns played God. At one point he is asked if he always answers prayers. The answer was "Yes, I always answer prayers, but sometimes I say no." That line of dialogue in a movie made more sense than much of the many Bibles.

My 8 year old Grand daughter just fasted all sugar for 2 weeks.Every night she ask God for a home with 3 bedrooms. The week after she broke the fast .A lady called ,her daughter was moving to Oregon.Did my daughter want to move into the 3 bedroom house.Cheaper rent then they paid for a 2 bedroom apartment.
Plus they have a yard and the option to buy.
God has promised us that what so ever we ask for in Faith believing we will receive it.But most lack faith.

God answers all prayers-sometimes yes, sometimes no, and sometimes with what we need instead of what we want. One of my favorite poems about prayer is as follows:

I asked for strength, that I might achieve
I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey..
I asked for health, that I might do greater things
I was given imfirmity, that I might do better things.
I asked for riches, that I might be happy
I was given poverty, that I might be wise.
I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men,
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things , that I might enjoy life
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing I asked for..
But everything I had hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am among all men, most richly blessed.

This poem was a part of an obiturary for a cousin of mine who was a very powerful Baptist minister of several different small country churches and a school teacher. I heard him preach as a child on many occasions.

yes. Good things come to those who wait. It may not happen right away, GOD is busy answering others prayers as well. And if you truly have faith-he will answer. If you are asking out of greed, hate, etc. he most likely will not answer your favor.

I think the biggest misconception for prayer requests would be many expect requests to come in exactly the form they requested. (God, please let me pass this test- God, please let me win this contest, God, please let my family member survive this disease), whats unique about the prayer experience is that miracles are delivered in a format that is unexpected- maybe you don't ace a test or win a contest- but you are granted certain opportunities that are BETTER than that instant gratification you originally thought- I myself never found myself to be religious or spiritual until my reckless drinking and partying led me to my current sobriety comepletely accidentally. I literally woke up and realized some higher power protected me from hospitals, jails and death and now pursue great academic advancements such a dual law and medical degree- it's a wonder, the times I did pray in the past, I prayed my parents put more money in my bank account to buy more hot alcoholic beverages haha- prayer is unique and fascinating- good luck.

God loves us more than our earthly parents. He is our Supreme Father, therefore loves us as such. So, if you would ask your human parent for something, a loving parent responds in love. Gives us what is best for us, not just what we want. God meets our needs. We may not understand His answer or even agree. God sees the bigger picture of our life, we do not. God may wait to answer for His perfect reason. And we may not know the ans until we get to heaven. God answers prayers according to what's best for us and for His glory and for His purposes, plans.

Remember, God is our master. If we ask too much, he is now like our servant. Just be Patient on what you're asking. If you do not deserve what you've ask for, then he won't give. God knows everything and his timing is perfect. God is answering our prayer but we think alot of things rather than god. Correct me if im wrong: When you pray, you don't think of God COMPLETELY.. right? ;) Just be patient.

I think...sometimes, when it is His will. When it follows what He has planned for our futures.

Second question: When it is not His will. When it is something that should not happen. For example, if someone prays for the barking dog next door to die. God may not grant that wish. Pray for the guy who cut you off in traffic to crash. Not likely.

Get the picture? God Bless You and Good Question!
