It goes back to survival instincts. In ancient times, the unknown could (and often did) kill you. It's instinctive.

Because mankind is brainwashed by the church and media, and it's easier NOT to think for yourself. Some People like the easy road. Some People like the hard road. As for ME I like to make my own road!

It's a survival mechanism--instinct. It shows we're barely above.....pigeons on the evolutionary scale
