It depends on age and maybe state. Police cited me for drinking under the age of 18 here in Maryland. I just got written up at the party, and they sent a letter home about a meeting with a social worker.

At the meeting I just needed to answer some standard questions about family situation, personality, etc. with the parent and also have a piss test for drugs. The social worker sentenced me to some class about why alcohol is bad, and how not to get caught the next time you drink (because they know they wont be able to convince you not to drink).

The citation wears off by the time you're 18 if you received the citation before you were a legal adult as I am now. Thats about it.

Oh and if you get more than 2 citations at a time, some deeper consequence occurs that you mentioned.

In the State of TX you will most certainly go to jail and could be charged for either minor in possession (MIP) and if you are drunk enough you can get a DUI or a PI,depending on the amount of alcohol that is in your system.
Under age drinking could cost you your license and the is the possibility of probation but most assuridly a fine.

There are variables involved like is the person a first time or multiple offender and are there any other charges that were filed along with the under-age alcohol consumption. And - importantly - is the person found guilty in court or had the ability to plea down to lesser charges.

For any person under 21, the safest route is just wait to legally drink or - better yet - don't bother, since it can cause too many problems.

If you are stumbling, dumb *** drunk you will most likely spend a night in jail sobering up in this state. If you just get caught with possession and it's a first or second time offense here (VT), you get a ticket. Almost like a speeding ticket. Sometimes you pay a fine, sometimes you do some alco counseling. Probation and fines if you keep doing it.

It pains me to tell you that the answer is yes, though usually it would only be for a night or two, and you might get off with just a fine.

The very fact that one can't drink before a dictated age is messed up. Such things should be up to the parents, not the government. Besides, most teenagers are quite capable of thinking for themselves, to the degree that they are able to decide what is good for them or not.

Well, it depends. You WILL pay a huge fine. You MIGHT spend a night in jail for your first offense. If it's a repeat offense, you can indeed do time.

Depends on the city or state. If you are down right "drunk" you will go to jail, if not most likly issued a citation.
