I'm not surprised. I think only people who are too stubborn to admit there is a God, would claim to believe in evolution. They're only fooling themselves.

So, do you think that statistics retrieved from a Newsweek poll prove God?

Do you think that the 82% of americans who say they are Christian are really orthodox or committed Christians?

Do you think that American Christians all agree as to who really is a Christian? Many Christians exclude Catholics, Mormons, Jehova's Witness and others; do they include them only when convenient?

If 1/3 of the people accept the Biblical account of creation, that means that 67% do not!

If you really want to show something, why not check the 82% that identify as Christian, and determine what their beliefs really are. I'm willing to bet that many don't believe what fundamentalist Christians do.

Another interesting note: If ony 33% of Americans believe in Biblical Creation, and 82% of Americans are Christian, that means that a SIGNIFICANT number of self-styled Christians don't believe the Bible to be quite literal. What does it say of Christianity when Christians don't believe the fundamental document of that religion?

Just some thoughts on statistics.

Interesting things missing in the article:

- Where the poll was taken.(locations throughout the US)

- Who was polled(age group, gender, etc.)

- The exact wording of the questions of the poll.

- How many people were polled.

I can get you the results you want on any survey concerning any issue. If you know how to word the questions, who to ask, and when to ask, it isn't that difficult.

I took a class as an undergrad on the election process. I have a BA in Poli Sci. One part of the class is polling/ surveys. They are powerful things. But, they are also easily manipulated to give candidates the results they want.

And what do you think this means, exactly?

BTW, in 2005 these two magazines had these subscription numbers: *

Teen People 1,525,409

Forbes 926,581

•Total paid subscriptions

And let’s not even get into the circulation rates for, say, the National Enquirer vs. The Harvard Review.

So....popularity of opinion means....what?

Nondescript is right. We have become the laughingstock of the world. Even if those statistics are correct, and I would be surprised if it was true that almost half of Americans rejected the theory of evolution, the entire rest of the world realizes that creationism is nonsense.

91% might say they believe in God, but a lot less than that live like they really believe it.

Seventy-three percent of Evangelical Protestants say they believe that God created humans in their present form within the last 10,000 years; 39 percent of non-Evangelical Protestants and 41 percent of Catholics agree with that view.

What is a non-Evangelical Protestant?

Well look at things this way, 75% of the national academy of science does NOT believe in God. So, do you think the majority of people in the US are more intelligent, or less intelligent? Here's an example, By your logic, You will take the advice of 200 retarded people, who dropped out of school over one scientist, JUST because there are more retarded people? You're logic is flawed my freind.

There is a really good, Pulitzer Prize winning book about this subject called "Summer for the Gods". It's about the Scopes Monkey Trial and how that set a precedent for things to end up like this :( I can't recommend it enough.

And yeah, isn't that just depressing?

Here is a link about it http://www.historycooperative.org/journals/lhr/17.2/br_13.html

eh, it doesn't really matter. The popular concensus is rarely ever right, it's just a burden for intelligence to get over. Considering God is the most elusive concept in the history of mankind, 100 percent of people could believe in God yet each one would think differently of it. Considering it's not of this world, one person could think it is a man in the clouds the next could think of it's a concept.
